Even after the release of the Pixel 10 series, the budget Pixel 9a is still the best Google phone for most people, according to Michelle Erhardt , deputy tech editor at Lifehacker. And I agree. I’ve been using the Pixel 9a as a second phone for several months now. On Cyber Monday, Amazon is discounting the Pixel 9a to just $349 . That’s $150 off the original price, making it the lowest price we’ve seen.
The Pixel 9a is a great phone for most people, thanks to all its pros and cons. It only has two cameras, and it doesn’t have the cool new AI features of the Pixel 10. But none of that matters, and you might prefer a phone without them .
Instead, you get a solid, compact smartphone. It still features the same Tensor G4 processor as the regular Pixel 9, a 120Hz display, and runs the latest Android 16 OS. It’s as fast and smooth as it was the day it launched. 8GB of RAM is enough to handle some Gemini tasks locally, and performance is more than adequate for everyday use. A 5,100mAh battery provides ample battery life. Not to mention Google’s new promise of software updates every 7 years, which also applies to the 9a.
Considering it uses smaller and older sensors, the camera is admittedly just decent. Don’t expect Pixel Pro-level photos. But for general everyday use, it’s more than adequate.
The Pixel 9a has everything the average user expects from a smartphone and would make an ideal gift for parents or grandparents this holiday season. As Michelle writes in her review, “But beyond being a good A-series phone, I also think it’s just a good phone.”
