I Gave My Mom an Apron With Her Design Created Using Adobe’s AI Tools. Here’s How I Did It.

My mother has been a master of Chinese painting for over 40 years. I recently used artificial intelligence to transform her works into physical gifts. If you want to achieve the same quality with an expressive family photo, here’s how to use Adobe’s new upscaling features for the best results.

For this, I used Adobe Firefly and Photoshop. Adobe Firefly is Adobe’s AI-powered image generation app, and this summer the company released a smartphone app to help you create on the go. If you’re new to Firefly, just look in the app for help. Photoshop , long considered the gold standard for image editing, recently added an AI-powered upscaling feature that lets you enhance scanned photos and images with the click of a button. Here’s how I did it.

How I Used Adobe’s AI Features to Create Gifts

I started with Adobe Firefly to visualize my mother’s designs on various items, including aprons, scarves, and even dresses. Looking at various mockups helped me choose an apron as the perfect first piece.

I then transferred the original painting image to Photoshop and used the AI-powered upscaling feature. Wearables require a much larger print size, and this step ensures every detail is crisp and vibrant. I then uploaded the file to Printful, a print-on-demand platform. You can also use Printify or another print-on-demand service, as the process is virtually identical.

What do you think at the moment?

In just a few clicks, the apron was ready to print and ship, and it was so satisfying to see my mom wearing her own work of art. Thanks to technology and artificial intelligence, we were able to take her creations beyond the canvas and share them with people around the world, making each gift personal, meaningful, and timeless. If you’re looking to experiment with artificial intelligence this holiday season, this is one way to practice while also creating a thoughtful gift for a loved one.
