Use This New TikTok Tool to Control the Amount of AI Content in Your Feed.

TikTok’s algorithm is notoriously addictive. The app quickly picks up on your interests, and before you know it, you’re down an hours-long rabbit hole every time you open it. But the algorithm doesn’t always work correctly: sometimes you see too much of the same type of content, no matter how many times you tap “Not interested.”

With the growing popularity of AI-generated content, this problem is becoming increasingly frustrating. AI-powered video generators like Sora allow people to create more hyper-realistic AI content than ever before, meaning you’ve likely already encountered it in your feeds —whether you know it or not .

Sure, I laughed at some of the AI-powered videos, but overall, I can’t stand them. And they’re not just a nuisance; they can be genuinely dangerous—some have even tricked users into installing malware on their smartphones . As this content becomes increasingly normalized, I worry about our collective ability to spot misinformation on social media, so if you have the ability to limit or remove such content from your feeds, I urge you to do so.

And as is often the case, TikTok is currently experimenting with a tool that will help you control the flow of AI-powered content on your For You page. According to a press release on Wednesday , the company says it will roll out a new option to the existing “Theme Management” menu on the app’s Settings page. Theme Management already allows you to fine-tune parts of your customized TikTok algorithm to show you more of one topic or less of another—you can control things like creativity, current events, dance, fashion and beauty, food and drink, health and fitness, humor, lifestyle, nature, pets, sports, and travel. A slider for AI-generated content will also be added to this section soon, if this option isn’t already available.

How to Limit AI Errors on TikTok

TikTok claims this new feature will be available “in the coming weeks,” but unfortunately, that’s not entirely accurate. I haven’t seen it even after installing the latest version of TikTok. However, that also means it could appear in your app at any time. When it does, here’s how to use it:

  1. Open TikTok, then tap “Profile” in the bottom right corner.

  2. Click the menu icon in the upper right corner, then select Settings and Privacy.

  3. Under Content and Display, select Content Settings, then select Manage Themes.

  4. If this option is available in your app, adjust the “AI-Generated Content” slider. Move it to the left to see less AI-generated content, or move it to the right to see more.

Unfortunately, it’s impossible to completely remove AI-driven content from your TikTok feed. However, I hope this slider will help you significantly reduce the amount of AI-driven content you see, eventually eliminating it entirely.
