ChatGPT, X, and Other Sites Affected by Cloudflare Outage

On Tuesday morning, much of the internet was down. If you tried to follow the news on X or interact with ChatGPT, you’d only get error messages. However, if you compare these messages, you’ll likely notice they all had a similar name: Cloudflare.
A massive Cloudflare outage on Tuesday morning had widespread consequences for much of the internet. While it’s currently unclear what caused the outage, we do know whether it caused website downtime. (When an error page says “Cloudflare: Error,” it’s easy to track down the source of the problem.) Because Cloudflare provides web infrastructure services to a huge number of sites, the actual list of affected sites is likely vast. For example, I wanted to convert the UTC time zone used by Cloudflare in its status reports to ET, and the first site I hit in a Google search returned an error.
While there’s no centralized repository listing all affected sites, we can view the sites with the most user reports of issues this morning using Downdetector . (Note: Downdetector is owned by Ziff Davis, the same parent company as Lifehacker.) Ironically, Downdetector itself was unavailable this morning—it also uses Cloudflare.
Downdetector doesn’t detect or report website downtime. Instead, users can report website issues through Downdetector. Therefore, it may be useful to know which websites visitors experienced issues with during Cloudflare’s downtime. Currently, this includes the following:
