Garmin Workouts Can Now Sync With Peloton

The Peloton app and its fitness equipment offer a variety of workout options, but they can’t do everything. If you track certain workouts with other devices, like a Garmin watch or cycling computer, they weren’t showing up in your Peloton workout history—until now. The new Garmin integration is now live, and here’s how it works.
How to link your Peloton and Garmin accounts
The new integration allows Peloton to import workouts from Garmin Connect. Garmin Connect is the name of the Garmin app, so workouts you complete on your watch (like the Forerunner 570 ) sync to the Garmin Connect app, and from there to Peloton. This doesn’t require a paid Garmin Connect+ or Peloton subscription. I don’t have either, and I still managed to set up this integration. Here’s how:
-
In the Peloton app, go to the “You” icon in the lower right corner.
-
Click on the hamburger menu in the upper right corner.
-
Select Connected apps and devices .
-
Click the Garmin icon and follow the instructions.
You can choose whether to automatically import workouts (you’ll probably want to select “yes”) and select specific activity types. For example, you can choose to import only running and cycling activities, or import everything except walking. Peloton states that imported workouts will count toward your goals and progress, but not toward your Peloton series.
Once set up, new workouts completed with Garmin will appear in your workout history. Some information is included, but not all. For example, I completed a short Pilates workout with named exercises. The Peloton app shows the duration, calories burned, and a heart rate graph with zones. However, the exercise names aren’t displayed, even though the Garmin app does. My treadmill workout showed all of the above, as well as pace and speed graphs, but it didn’t mark laps or provide any additional data that Garmin collects, such as running dynamics.
How to sync in both directions
Unfortunately, this new integration only works one way. Garmin workouts appear in the Peloton app, but they don’t sync with your Garmin workout history.
One popular way to sync Peloton workouts to your Garmin account is to use the third-party app SyncMyWorkout . This service isn’t affiliated with either company, but it allows you to sync with both your Peloton and Garmin accounts, acting as an intermediary. Once set up, the app will import your workouts from the previous week for free in demo mode. Continued use requires a subscription fee of $7 per month or $25 per year. A valid Peloton membership is required, but a paid Garmin membership is not required.
If you want to do it yourself, but at a more expensive cost, there’s the DFC—a $125 device that connects to your Peloton Bike and transmits workout data via Bluetooth directly to your Garmin. A Peloton account isn’t required, and I was able to set it up perfectly on my bike without a subscription.
