Wireless headphones are convenient and offer greater freedom of movement, but wired Bluetooth headphones are harder to lose and significantly more affordable. If you’re prone to losing your wireless earbuds, the Flex magnetic earcups snap together when you’re not wearing them, keeping them securely around your neck. When they snap into place, playback automatically pauses, saving battery. The neckband design prevents tangling and houses the charging port, microphones, and volume controls.

According to a PCMag review , which gave them an “excellent” rating, they fit securely in the ear thanks to a tangle-free design and deliver balanced sound with powerful bass thanks to 8.2mm drivers. Battery life on a full charge is approximately 12 hours, and a 10-minute “Fast Fuel” charge provides approximately 90 minutes of listening time.

The headphones use Class 1 Bluetooth for extended range and the Apple W1 chip for seamless pairing. Two pairs of Flex headphones can share the same audio source; when a second pair is nearby, a connection prompt appears on the screen. They are compatible with Bluetooth 5.0 and support the AAC and SBC Bluetooth codecs, but not AptX. Charging is via USB-C. They don’t have an official IP rating, so be careful if wearing them in heavy rain.

If you don’t need active noise cancellation, don’t need waterproofing, and are happy with USB-C charging, the Beats Flex headphones are an affordable option with rich bass and the Apple W1 chip, making them a particularly good choice for budget-conscious iOS users.
