Spotify’s Android App Is Crashing, but There Are Solutions.

Spotify has acknowledged that the Spotify app on Android is currently experiencing crashes and freezes after two weeks of pressure from listeners. A fix is reportedly on the way, but in the meantime, there are a few steps you can take to get back to listening to music.

Reports of problems with the Spotify Android app first appeared on Spotify’s support forums , but then spread to social media . Users complain that the app either freezes upon launch or crashes while listening. Others note that the issues only occur when connected to Wi-Fi. Spotify confirmed that “the issue does not occur when using mobile data.”

According to Spotify, the company is aware of the issue and is working to resolve it. Furthermore, Spotify notes that most complaints are coming from Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel users, although the cause is still unclear. While the issue may be specific to these devices (one Reddit user suggested it was related to Chromecast compatibility), since these are also popular Android smartphones, the issue may be due to the sample size.

Regardless of phone model, the issue didn’t affect all Android users. When listening to music on a Pixel 10, I didn’t notice any difference compared to using the app on an iPhone 15 Pro.

If you’re an Android user and are currently unable to use the Spotify app properly, try the following solutions while you wait for an official fix:

What do you think at the moment?

Listen to mobile data instead

Since the Spotify app issues are limited to Wi-Fi, the simplest solution is to use mobile data. While this isn’t ideal, as not everyone has unlimited data, for those who do, it’s a simple solution. Disabling Wi-Fi depends on your phone model, but you can usually find the switch by swiping down from the top of the screen.

Use the web player

While it’s not as convenient as using the Spotify app, you can try using the browser version of Spotify to get around the issue. Click here to access it. Note that the web player will attempt to switch to the Spotify app if you have it installed, so you’ll need to either temporarily uninstall it or adjust your browser permissions so it doesn’t redirect links to the app. On my Pixel 10, this is located under Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Opening Links > Spotify , though your phone’s controls may be different. Note that the web player also lacks some features, such as downloads.

Try a different Wi-Fi network

While this isn’t a perfect solution if the issue affects your home Wi-Fi network, Spotify states that the bug currently only affects “certain Wi-Fi networks.” If you’re at an office or coffee shop, it’s worth connecting to their Wi-Fi and seeing if the issue persists.
