All of These Amazon Kindle Devices Are on Sale for a Discounted Price This October During Prime Day.

Amazon Big Deal Days is running from October 7th to 8th, and before it ends, Lifehacker will be sharing the best sales based on product reviews, comparisons, and price tracking tools.

After years of debating whether I needed an e-reader, I finally bought a Kindle Paperwhite during (yet another) Amazon Prime Day sale a few months ago. I’m very happy with the purchase and the decision to take my Kindle off sale . If you’re looking to buy a Kindle during Amazon’s ongoing October Prime Day sale, you have plenty of models to choose from, and I’ll tell you about each one.

The most affordable Amazon Kindle (with lock screen ads) is now $85 (MSRP $110), its lowest price ever, according to price checkers. If you don’t mind the ads, the Kindle (without ads) is available for $105 (MSRP $130), also its lowest price since its launch.

I seriously considered this version of the Kindle over the Paperwhite because it has a similar 300 ppi display and is much cheaper. Ultimately, I chose the Paperwhite because I like the screen to be unobtrusive, and I also appreciate the slightly larger screen, water resistance, and longer battery life. If those features aren’t important to you, the base Kindle is a great choice, especially at the October Prime Day price. It has a six-inch display and lasts up to six weeks on a single charge.

Kindle Paperwhite

I believe the Kindle Paperwhite is the best e-reader for most people. It offers the perfect balance of price and performance, thanks to a seven-inch display, IPX8 water resistance, and up to 12 weeks of battery life. On October’s sale day, the Kindle Paperwhite reached a new low, starting at $125 for the ad-supported version (MSRP: $160).

If you’re looking for an ad-free Kindle Paperwhite, you can get it for $145 (MSRP: $180). This is the first time the price has dropped below $150, making it a great deal.

The Kindle Paperwhite has an upgraded Signature Edition, which adds cool features like wireless charging, automatically adjusting backlighting, and 32GB of storage, double that of the non-Signature model. None of these features are essential to me, but they might entice you. The extra storage is handy if you use your Kindle to listen to Audible audiobooks (you’ll need to connect a pair of Bluetooth headphones for this). You’ll be happy to know that even the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition hit a record low price on Prime Day in October. You can get it for $150 , a 25% discount off the retail price of $200.

Kindle Colorsoft

Those looking for a Kindle with a color display should consider the Colorsoft. During the October Amazon Prime Day sale , the Colorsoft Kindle was on sale for under $200 (MSRP: $250), the lowest price I’ve seen. However, don’t get too excited based on price alone, as the Colorsoft is a controversial device. My colleague Michelle Erhardt gave the Colorsoft a 3.5/5 rating in her review and noted that it degrades the quality of black-and-white content. She also doesn’t recommend it for reading comics , making it a tough buy overall. The battery life is eight weeks, which is shorter than the Paperwhite.

Kindle Scribe

The Kindle Scribe is also designed for note-taking. Lifehacker Deputy Editor-in-Chief Joel Cunningham gave the Scribe a 3.5/5 rating in his review , calling it a great e-reader but a disappointing digital notepad. It’s not waterproof, which is a shame considering its price. In October 2025, during Prime Day, the Kindle Scribe dropped to $300 (from $400 MSRP), marking its lowest price ever.
