Walmart has embraced October’s Prime Day, trying to distract you from the biggest online sale of the fall. The main event was the two-day Amazon Prime Big Deal Days promotion, also known as October Prime Day. This week, Walmart officially announced its own “Prime Day”-style promotion , and for those hesitant to pay for a membership to take advantage of the sale, we have good news: it’s free for everyone.
What are Walmart Deals?
Walmart Deals is intended to be a response to Amazon’s Prime Day sales. It’s a sale held both in-store and online, offering discounts on most Walmart products (food is perhaps the biggest omission). The sale is held annually in the spring, summer, fall, and winter, coinciding with Prime Day sales.
When do Walmart sales start?
The Walmart Deals promotion starts October 6 at 7:00 PM ET for Walmart+ members (with a five-hour head start) and October 7 for everyone else. It runs through October 12 both online and in stores, subject to local business hours.
Do I need to be a Walmart+ member to shop during Walmart Deals?
No. But if you’re a Walmart+ member, you’ll get early access to sales starting October 6 at 7:00 PM ET, the day before the event opens to the public. You can sign up for a free 30-day Walmart+ subscription or sign up for an annual plan for $98 ($8.17 per month).
What to Expect from Walmart Deals
Walmart says the sale will span a variety of product categories, including discounts on electronics, home goods, toys, travel, and many others, similar to last year’s offers . The sale will be available on Walmart.com , the Walmart app, and in stores. You can already see the landing page, though the sale hasn’t started yet. All other competing Prime Day sales in October
You can always expect major retailers to hold their own competitive sales, with the biggest being Best Buy , Target , and, of course, Amazon . Target is the only other retailer to officially announce its October competitive sale. As in previous years, these sales will start earlier, overlap, and last longer than October’s Prime Day. Each retailer typically has a couple of deals that are better than Amazon’s Prime Day, but most of the best deals will be on Amazon. I’ll update this post with details on these deals as they’re announced.
