How to Set up Android ‘Calling Cards’ for Friends and Family

Google’s Phone app is becoming more and more like the iPhone. First there’s the new iPhone-inspired horizontal swipe-to-reply gesture , but less controversially, there are now also full-screen, customizable cards for your contacts. They’re in line with Android 16’s new Material 3 Expressive design language, which emphasizes big buttons and bright colors. Here’s what you need to know about the new Android equivalent of iOS’s Contacts Posters feature.
How Android Calling Cards Differ From iPhone Contact Posters
The Calling Cards feature in the Google Phone app doesn’t work exactly like the Contacts Posters feature on the iPhone.
On iPhone, the Contact Posters feature lets you create a custom business card with your name and photo or memoji that’s automatically sent to your contacts’ iPhones when you call them. They don’t have to do anything on their end, but that’s not how it works on Android.
On Android, you have to create a business card for each contact individually, and your contacts won’t see the business card you create. In other words, you don’t control how you look to others, you control how they look to you. You probably won’t do this for everyone, but I highly recommend you take the time to add business cards for friends and family—they really do look nice.
How to Create a Business Card in the Google Phone App for Android
After updating the Google Phone app, open the Contacts page. Tap the Edit button at the top of the screen.
You will see a new option called “Image and Business Card”. Click on the “Rectangular Business Card” button.
Now you are on the setup screen. Tap the Gallery button or the Google Photos button to find an image for your contact. Once you have selected a photo, you can begin the setup.
The image will automatically be cropped to fit the screen, but you can click on the photo to pan or crop it if needed. You can also customize the font and color using the toolbar at the bottom. There are more than a dozen colors available, although I would prefer a full palette. When you’re happy with your business card, click the Done button.
The Google Phone app will now ask you if you want to use your new business card as the picture for this contact. This is usually a good idea. Tap Confirm and Crop , then crop the business card photo so that only the contact’s face is visible. Then tap Save .
That’s it. Your full-screen business card is saved and active. Repeat this process for as many contacts as you want!
