Labor Day weekend tech sales are in full swing, with deals on TVs , iPads, tablets , and headphones . If you’re looking for a bargain on a new MacBook, this is your best chance this year: Apple’s powerful M4 MacBook Air is already down to $799, its lowest price ever , and now the base 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro is following suit: It’s $1,299 on Amazon , down $300 from its usual $1,599. That’s the lowest price ever for this MacBook Pro model. (The pricier M4 Pro model with the M4 Pro chip and 25GB of RAM is already $300 off, from $1,999 to $1,699 .)
The 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro is a step up from the M4 MacBook Air. They have the same chip, but the MacBook Pro has a 10-core GPU instead of an eight-core one. It also comes standard with 16GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage (versus the Air’s 256GB).
The MacBook Pro’s body and design are also completely different. Unlike the Air, the Pro’s body is fan-cooled, allowing it to withstand CPU-intensive workloads like video editing and encoding for much longer. The Pro also offers a much better display with a 3024 x 1964 resolution and 254 pixels per inch, 16,000 nits of HDR brightness, up to 1000 nits of brightness at normal outdoor brightness, and a 120Hz refresh rate. The MacBook Pro’s m4 battery backup also provides up to 24 hours of video streaming and up to 16 hours of wireless web browsing.
The Pro version comes with three Thunderbolt USB-C ports, an HDMI cable, and an SD card slot. All this technology does make the Pro heavier, though: it weighs 1.55 kg (3.4 lbs) versus 1.24 kg (2.7 lbs) for the Air. But if you’re someone who’s looking for a really fast MacBook with a 120Hz display, a long battery life, great build quality, and you don’t mind the weight, the M4 MacBook Pro could be a great choice.
If you’re looking for a thin and light laptop for work and school, you can’t go wrong with the M4 MacBook Air, which is, again, discounted to $799 for Labor Day. If you’re looking for a budget option, the reliable M1 MacBook Air can be yours for $599 .
