Preparing trees and shrubs for fall often involves trimming dead branches, suckers, and roots. If you have a lot of outdoor work to do, you may have noticed that landscaping tools can be expensive. Milwaukee makes some of the best cordless cutting and pruning tools, and here are some deals that are up to 50% off for Labor Day.
Chainsaws
While cordless chainsaws have been around since 2008, it’s only been in the last five years that cordless power tools have become small and lightweight enough, with enough runtime to power lawn and garden equipment like chainsaws, without having to replace them every few cuts. Milwaukee has been a leader in bringing these tools to DIY enthusiasts, releasing its first cordless chainsaw in 2018.
Two of Milwaukee’s best chainsaws are on Labor Day sale at Home Depot. The 14-inch, 18-volt cordless saw is on sale for $349, 31 percent off its regular price. It comes with a chain, 12-amp-hour battery, 8-amp-hour battery, and charger. The 8-inch mini chainsaw is on sale for $249, 51 percent off its regular price. This saw comes with a chain, 6-amp-hour battery, and charger.
The larger saw with a 14-inch (36 cm) 12 amp-hour battery can make up to 225 cuts on a single charge, while the smaller one can make about 100 cuts on branches up to 10 cm wide. These saws are smaller and lighter than gas chain saws, and they are 30% faster. The downside is that the batteries need to be recharged periodically, so they are not suitable for large-scale jobs or situations where a charging station is impractical. However, for most home improvement projects, these saws are great.
Combo sets
If your fall gardening tasks involve more than just branches, a hedge trimmer or a pair of electric pruning shears, as well as a saw, may be useful as pruning tools.
Milwaukee’s 12-volt, 6-inch cordless mini chainsaw and cordless pruning shears kit is on sale for $439, 51 percent off the regular price. The kit includes a 12-volt 2.0 Ah battery, two 12-volt 4.0 Ah batteries, two 12-volt 6.0 Ah batteries, two chargers, and a pruning shear and saw. A similar kit that replaces the pruning shears with an 8-inch hedge trimmer is also on sale for $439.
These two kits are great for small pruning jobs, and the electric pruners have come in handy when I’m pruning bush roses and removing shoots from hawthorns. If you don’t need a full-blown chainsaw but still need to do some gardening, these small kits are a good option. They have everything you need to start pruning right out of the box.
