Laptops are a Labor Day staple. Here are my picks for both PC and Mac.

  • Apple MacBook Air 13-inch with M4 chip: $799 at Amazon (was $999) . Apple’s newest MacBook Air features the new M4 chip, a base 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage.

  • Apple MacBook Air 15-inch with M4 chip: $999 at Amazon (was $1,199) . This MacBook Air model also has the M4 chip and starts with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, but it has a larger 15-inch screen.

  • Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch with M4/M4 Pro/M4 Max chip: $1,299 at Amazon (was $1,599) . The smaller MacBook Pro comes standard with the M4 chip, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage, but can be configured with the M4 Pro or M4 Max chip, plus more memory and storage.

  • Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch with M4 Pro/M4 Max chip: $2,229 at Amazon (was $2,499) . The larger MacBook Pro has the largest display of any Apple notebook and comes with an M4 Pro or Max chip. You can customize the amount of RAM and storage to suit your budget.

  • Microsoft Surface Laptop 13-inch: $799 at Best Buy (was $900) . Microsoft’s own version of the laptop is now on sale in a MacBook-like form factor. It offers a familiar layout for those switching to Windows for the first time and features a battery-efficient ARM processor.

  • Samsung Galaxy Book5 360: $999 at Amazon (was $1,350) . This Samsung laptop is a convertible, meaning it can be turned into a tablet. It comes with a mid-range Intel Core Ultra 7 processor.

  • Asus ROG Strix G16: $1,275 at Amazon (was $1,500) The Asus ROG Strix G16 gaming laptop comes in several models, all of which are on sale. The pricier models feature a 16-inch QHD+ display with a 240Hz refresh rate, an Intel Core i9 processor, and a 1TB SSD. There’s also an entry-level model with an FHD+ display with a 165Hz refresh rate and an Intel Core i7 processor.

  • Alienware Aurora 16X: $1,350 at Dell (was $1,550). This slightly pricier gaming laptop is a more affordable version of Alienware, Dell’s premium sub-brand, and features a 16-inch QHD+ display with a 240Hz refresh rate, an Intel Core Ultra 7 GPU, 16GB of RAM, an RTX 5060 GPU, and a hefty 1TB of storage. You can also spend more and get a higher-end configuration.

  • HP Victus 15.6″: $820 at Best Buy (was $900) This budget gaming laptop costs a bit more than a premium Chromebook, but it packs a full Ryzen 7 processor and RTX 4050 graphics, along with a 1080p display that supports 144Hz gaming. Some of the tech is generations old, but at these prices, it’s a tradeoff you might be willing to make.

  • Acer Chromebook Plus 514: $342 at Amazon (was $400) . This Chromebook has a large 1080p IPS display, and while it’s not as powerful as more expensive laptops, it does come with a number of Chromebook Plus AI features designed to even the playing field.

  • Acer Chromebook 315: $139 at Best Buy (was $299) This is one of the most affordable laptops out there. And while it’s a bit weaker and less feature-rich than the Chromebook Plus, it still has a large 15.6-inch, 1080p display.

Whether you prefer Apple or Android, there are some great tablet sales going on right now.

  • Apple’s 11-inch iPad: $299 at Amazon (was $349) . Apple’s base model iPad is now on sale for a small discount. It features the A16 chip, which is the same processor found in the iPhone 14 Pro.

  • Apple iPad Air 13-inch: $649 at Amazon (was $799) . The iPad Air isn’t technically Apple’s thinnest iPad anymore, but it’s a worthy upgrade over the base model with a much more powerful M3 chip and the option to buy either a 13-inch or 11-inch model.

  • Apple iPad Pro: $897 at Amazon (was $999) . This model is Apple’s most premium (and, in fact, thinnest) iPad. It has an M4 chip, which puts it roughly on par with the MacBook Air. It also features an OLED display for the first time in an iPad.

  • Microsoft Surface Pro: $1,000 at Best Buy (was $1,200) This tablet is the only one on our list with a full desktop operating system, offering the same Windows 11 experience as any other PC. That makes it a great choice for those who want to go from the convenience of a tablet to a more traditional computing environment in an instant.

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+: $146 at Amazon (was $220). The Samsung A9+ has a large 11-inch display with 1200p resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. You can save even more by going with the 64GB model, but if you plan to use the tablet for a long time, the 128GB model will give you more storage flexibility.

Finding great iPhone deals is tough right now, as most retailers are waiting for Apple to announce the iPhone 17 to decide how to deal with their existing stock. Android, however, is a different story.

What do you think at the moment?

  • Samsung Galaxy S25 (unlocked): $780 at Amazon (was $860) . Samsung’s Galaxy line is probably the closest Android phone to an iPhone, and it’s a good backup option for those who don’t know where to start. It’s also known for its cameras, so it’s a great choice for photo enthusiasts, too.

  • Samsung Galaxy S25+ (unlocked): $850 at Amazon (was $1,000) If the standard S25 is too small for you, the S25+ might be a great option. It has all the benefits of the S25, but with a half-inch larger display.

  • Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra (unlocked): $1,170 at Amazon (was $1,420) . Samsung’s Ultra smartphones have the highest megapixel counts on the market and come with styluses. They’re arguably the most premium smartphone experience available right now, on Android or other platforms.

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE (Unlocked): $700 at Amazon (was $900) . This affordable flip phone is for those who miss the ’90s and ’00s. The budget version of the new Flip 7 has a 6.7-inch screen, but when folded, it turns into a 3.4-inch screen, making the phone smaller but still capable of reading text messages and making basic calls. It’s available in 128GB and 256GB versions.

  • Motorola Razr 2024 (unlocked): $500 at Amazon (was $700) . The Motorola Razr is an even more affordable alternative to the Galaxy Z Flip FE, and while I like the 2025 model , the base 2024 model featured here is still worth your consideration at this price. For much less than the Z Flip, you get a 3.6-inch external screen, a 6.9-inch internal display, and a decent MediaTek Dimensity 7300X processor.

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 (Unlocked): $1,700 at Amazon (was $2,000) . For a limited time after the Galaxy Z Fold 7 launch, Samsung is discounting its newest foldable phone by $300. It’s the thinnest foldable phone on the market right now, with an 8-inch internal display and a 6.5-inch external screen. All colors of the 256GB version are the same price, though the discounts vary for the 512GB versions.

  • Google Pixel 10 (Unlocked): Gift Cards to Amazon and Best Buy . Google’s Pixel 10 phones are technically only available for pre-order right now, but Amazon and Best Buy are already offering them with bonus gift cards. You’ll pay the regular price for the phone itself, but you’ll get an extra gift card worth between $100 and $350, depending on the Pixel 10 model.

Like the iPhone, Apple Watch sales are currently struggling. However, Android users have a little more choice.

  • Google Pixel Watch 3: $299 at Amazon (was $400) . Google’s Pixel Watch series is probably my favorite smartwatch yet, with a sleek, minimalist circular design. This model is older than the previous generation, but it has a thin bezel and supports Fitbit features, including tracking metrics like vertical oscillation while running.

  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 7: $209 at Amazon (was $300) . The Galaxy Watch 7 is the cheapest smartwatch on this list, but it looks pretty luxurious thanks to a design that resembles a classic mechanical watch. It doesn’t have a digital crown, but it’s no slouch when it comes to activity tracking, especially sleep and heart rate monitoring.

  • Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra: $420 at Walmart (was $650) . This Galaxy smartwatch features a digital wheel, as well as longer battery life and a more durable titanium case. It also comes with a variety of apps for outdoor activities, like diving.

Earbuds and headsets are essential for using your phone in public, and there are great options for Labor Day for both Android and iPhone users.

  • Apple AirPods Pro 2: $199 at Amazon (was $249) . Apple’s best earbuds are on sale right now, and they’re a great value. They feature noise cancellation, USB-C charging, conversation recognition, and a speaker in the case to make them easy to find.

  • Apple AirPods 4: $90 at Amazon (was $130) . Also on sale are Apple’s newest non-Pro AirPods, which feature USB-C charging, immersive sound, a promised 30 hours of battery life (with charging case), and voice isolation.

  • Beats Studio Buds: $99 at Amazon (was $150) . They’re technically an Apple brand, but Beats offer cheaper noise-canceling than the AirPods Pro, as well as a different shape that some people might like.

  • Apple AirPods Max: $480 at Amazon (was $549) . Apple’s over-ear AirPods Max are a great choice for those who want AirPods-level noise cancellation and automatic audio switching but prefer a more traditional form factor.

  • Sony WH-1000XM4: $198 at Amazon (was $348) . These Sony headphones are two generations behind, but they offer a compact form factor that’s hard to find for less. They feature conversation recognition, a built-in mic for calls, Alexa control, and come in three color options.

  • Sony WH-1000XM5: $298 at Amazon (was $400) . Sony’s latest generation of noise-canceling headphones trades down on portability, but it features four beamforming microphones for improved call quality and promises up to 30 hours of battery life.

I buy TVs basically only on sales. I’m not planning on changing the model now, but here’s what I’d buy if I thought about it.

  • 75-inch Roku Plus Series QLED 4K Smart TV: $600 at Best Buy (was $900) . Roku is arguably one of the best ways to buy a TV at a great price right now. This TV features 4K, Dolby Vision, a 60Hz refresh rate, and the fast Roku operating system built right in.

  • 50-inch Insignia F50 Fire Series 4K TV: $175 at Amazon (was $300) . If you want one of the cheapest 4K TVs around, check out this one, which is oddly made by Best Buy but runs Amazon’s OS. There are only a few sizes available right now, with the cheapest being the 50-inch. You won’t get a high refresh rate or any of the OLED- or even QLED-style benefits, but it will still upscale a high-resolution image to a large size.

  • 55-inch TCL QM6K QD-Mini LED 4K Smart TV: $447 at Amazon (was $600) This TCL TV packs a lot of features into a compact enough package to keep the price affordable. You’ll get 4K resolution, 240Hz gaming, Dolby Atmos support, and an Onkyo sound system. It’s not quite an OLED display, but its multiple dimming zones keep the contrast ratio high.

  • 85-inch TCL QM7 QLED 4K Smart TV: $1,397 at Amazon (was $2,000) . This model from TCL is currently only available at discounted prices, but it’s still a relatively affordable option for big-screen viewing at home. The TV has Google TV built-in, supports 4K, can play games at up to 240 frames per second, and while it’s not an OLED display, its QD-Mini LED technology has multiple dimming zones for a similar experience.
