Labor Day sales usually mean hunting for discounts on big-ticket items — TVs , tablets , maybe even a new pair of headphones . But this year, one of the best deals I spotted was on a home speaker system that almost never goes on sale: the Sonos Era 300. It’s now $359 on Amazon (previously $449), the lowest price ever, according to price trackers .
Sonos designed this speaker with spatial audio in mind, and the design reflects that. At first glance, it looks a bit like a futuristic hourglass, but the unusual shape allows for six speakers to be positioned in different directions—front, side, and up—so that Dolby Atmos tracks don’t just bombard you, but rather spread out across the room for a wide, cinematic soundstage. Overall, the Era 300 delivers a balanced sound that works well across a range of genres, though the bass isn’t as powerful out of the box. However, you can adjust the bass in the app to boost (or cut) it if you want to change the experience.
There’s also a Trueplay tuning feature (a long-standing Sonos selling point), which optimizes the sound for your room’s acoustics. As for connectivity, you can stream music over Wi-Fi, connect via Bluetooth, or use AirPlay 2 if you’re into the Apple ecosystem. There’s also built-in Alexa for voice commands, and a line-in option for connecting other devices, though it requires a separate adapter. What the Era 300 doesn’t have is portability—at 4.5 kg (9 lbs), this speaker is heavy-duty and can’t be moved. It’s not waterproof, doesn’t run on a battery, and isn’t designed for travel. But if you want a unit that’ll fill your living room with clear, balanced sound, this Labor Day price is the best you can get.
