The iPhone 17 is just around the corner. In due course, we’ll see what changes Apple has planned for its smartphone lineup — as if we didn’t already have a clear idea thanks to numerous leaks and rumors . While Apple usually announces iPhones in September, we don’t have to guess when the iPhone 17 will be unveiled: the company has officially told us.
“Amazing”
Apple announced Tuesday that its next big event will take place on September 9 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time (1 p.m. Eastern Time). The company sent out invitations to members of the media featuring the Apple logo glowing in blue, yellow, and red, with the tagline “Awe dropping.” Apple also announced the event on its website .
However, the announcement doesn’t provide many details beyond those listed above. The company doesn’t explicitly say it will be the iPhone 17, although that is almost certainly the case. Apple never officially reveals what it is announcing, although every September event turns out to be an announcement of new iPhones.
What Apple has planned for this event
For the most part, the iPhone 17 lineup looks like a modest upgrade over the iPhone 16 lineup. Apple plans to release the familiar iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, all of which are likely to feature better hardware and cameras than previous iPhone models. New this year is the iPhone 17 Air, which replaces the iPhone 16 Plus. This device will be Apple’s thinnest and lightest iPhone to date, competing with devices like the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge .
As with other Apple hardware events, you can expect a new Apple Watch and possibly new AirPods. There’s no reason to expect new iPads or MacBooks at this event, though, and I don’t expect a new HomePod, Apple TV, or Vision Pro just yet. But they’re probably coming soon.
How to watch
If you want to see all the Apple news live, tune in to the livestream on September 9 at 10 a.m. (1 p.m. ET). Apple will be streaming it live on its website, but you can also watch it on YouTube from the company’s official website. As of this writing, the video stream is already live .
