The HDR peak brightness is around 1,000 nits, ensuring that there is no blurring even when watching sports or action movies during the day. Additionally, the Mini-LED backlight combined with Sony’s XR Backlight Master Drive delivers excellent contrast and impressively deep blacks for an LCD display. You may notice some slight blurring around bright objects in very dark scenes, but for most people it won’t be a deal-breaker.

The Bravia 5 also takes modern TV usage into account. PlayStation 5 owners get the most obvious benefit: the TV automatically recognizes the console and adjusts for smooth, low-latency gaming at 120Hz . Plus, its XR processor upscales older HD movies, smooths out motion, and adds enough quality that regular streaming doesn’t feel dated on the big 65-inch screen.

The built-in audio system is another practical advantage. With Acoustic Multi Audio, the TV screen is also part of the speaker system, so dialogue and effects sound like they are coming from the right source, without the need to immediately buy a soundbar.

What do you think at the moment?

Not all are up to Sony’s standards, though. The LG OLED B4 ($1,296.99) is an alternative in this price range if theater-quality viewing is a priority. Its self-illuminating pixels deliver flawless blacks without any washout, and it handles intense shadows more accurately than any backlit panel. It’s also a bit more restrained in its processing, which movie buffs tend to appreciate. However, without the extra hardware, it’s not as bright, and the sound isn’t as compelling, which usually means you’ll need to invest in a soundbar .

If you have a bright living room, want a powerful built-in audio system, or are a PS5 owner looking for a TV that optimizes for your console, the Bravia 5 is a great choice, especially at this price. But if you prefer watching late-night movies and dramas in the shadows, the LG B4 might be a better choice.
