Pixel 10’s ‘Magic Hint’ Is Google’s Way of Turning AI Into a Helpful Little Assistant

Google just unveiled its new Pixel 10 lineup at the Made by Google 2025 event in Brooklyn, New York . Aside from the new Tensor G5 chip, manufactured on TSMC’s 3nm process, there’s one other feature that’s present across the entire lineup . And that’s artificial intelligence (AI) . There’s Gemini in the Photos app, Gemini in the image editor, an AI voice translator, and it’s sprinkled throughout the interface as well.
Until now, AI on smartphones has been represented by chatbots, prompts, and actions. Google wants to implement a more proactive approach with its new Magic Cue system. Magic Cue uses the Tensor G5 chip and local LLM (Google Nano models) to automatically display information in the right context.
Texting and Action Suggestions
Here’s a suggestion from Google: Your friend texts you asking for the address of an event tonight. Pixel can pull the information from Gmail and quickly give you the option to share your reservation and address. This also works with flight information. This also works in many Google apps, like Gmail, Calendar, Screenshots, Messages, and more.
As demonstrated during the demo, Google Pixel can help you do other things, too. For example, if your partner asks you to take a photo of your dog, you’ll be able to open Google Photos, which will show just the photo of your dog.
This is what we mean by “contextual silent computing.” It only appears when you need to share information or suggest an action — otherwise, it doesn’t bother you. Google says you have control over the data Magic Cue has access to, and you can turn it off at any time.
Magic Cue will also appear in the Daily Hub, which you’ll find in the Discover feed. This new feature opens a personalized digest of upcoming events on your calendar, trending topics, playlists, emails, meetings, and more. All on one page.
More AI Features Coming to Pixel 10
-
Real-time translator : Gemini also provides AI-powered call translation that happens right on the device. The Pixel 10 translates calls in real time and even syncs the audio to the speaker’s voice. So two people who speak German and English can have a conversation in their native language, and the Pixel translates the voice in real time. This feature works from English to Spanish, German, Japanese, French, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, Swedish, Russian, and Indonesian.
-
Call Filter, but for missed calls : If you miss a call, the Take Message feature will provide you with a real-time transcript. The feature uses artificial intelligence to determine what to do next based on the message.

See more with Gemini Live : When you share your camera with Gemini Live, it can now highlight objects in the camera’s field of view to make it easier to pinpoint what the AI really wants you to focus on.
