Depending on your circumstances, the retailer or mobile operator may offer you a better deal.
For exchange:
If you have a new iPhone or other valuable device you’re willing to trade in, the Apple Store offers the best trade-in terms if you don’t want to be tied to a specific carrier, with up to $600 in credit . The iPhone 15 Pro Max will set you back $600, depending on condition, which means you can get the iPhone 16 for $200.
For those who don’t mind purchasing their iPhone from a carrier but just want the best possible trade-in deal, T-Mobile is offering up to $1,000 in credit .
All other mobile carriers and major retailers also offer trade-in credit, but they may not be as favorable as these two.
For 100% funding:
Not everyone can shell out thousands of dollars for a new iPhone, but there are ways to make small monthly payments with 0% APR. You can do this directly with Apple , but if you take out a loan with a mobile carrier, you can pay less over time, but without interest. AT&T and Verizon offer 0% APR for 36 months, and T-Mobile offers 0% APR for 24 months.
Keep in mind that if you decide to use a carrier instead of an unlocked iPhone, you’ll have to become a member of that carrier and likely sign up for the most expensive plan they have (this won’t apply if you’re already a customer and have a qualifying plan).

From retailers:
If you want to get rewards points, discounts, or preserve maximum resale value without being tied to a specific carrier, going to a retailer is a good choice. Best Buy , Walmart , and Target all have the full iPhone 16 lineup, and some offer the same trade-in or credit terms as carriers (you can just order through one of them instead of directly from the carrier). If you don’t have leverage with a retailer, Best Buy is offering three months of Apple TV, Apple Fitness, Apple Arcade, and Apple Music when you pre-order.
