The Four Best Stretching Trainers on YouTube

I’ve been recommending a lot of free YouTube workout instructors lately, from Pilates to cycling , but that’s only part of the equation: You need to stretch before (and maybe after) any of those classes. Why not turn to YouTube for advice there, too? If you know what to avoid when searching for how-to workouts there, YouTube does a great job of replacing paid-subscription sites like Peloton or Les Mills+ . Personally, I’m a big fan of Peloton’s guided stretches , but if you don’t use the app, the ones below are a great free alternative.
State of readiness
I love theReady State channel because it’s created by an actual physical therapist whose goal is to help “everyday athletes and people enjoy better mobility, agility, and strength.” YouTube tutorials can sometimes feel like they’re aimed at the coolest, fittest people in the world, but these seem approachable and helpful.
The beauty of these videos is that they are more educational than just tutorials. What I mean is that you learn about stretching, how to do it, what it actually does, and why it is important, while also learning the exercises themselves. This channel is evidence-based and functional, and I recommend it as a starting point before moving on to other programs on the platform.
Madi Morrison
I, along with her nearly 4 million subscribers, love Madi Morrison’s videos for a few reasons. First, they’re simply soothing, both in terms of the tasks and the delivery. Soft music, gentle stretching, and a relaxing atmosphere are what you’ll find. Second, while she doesn’t have the verbal cues I typically associate with quality instruction, Morrison’s videos are chock-full of on-screen directions. It’s clear what she’s doing, the stretches are clearly marked on-screen, and the delivery is high-quality, so you don’t have to guess.
Please note that in videos where she speaks or uses voiceover, she will be speaking in German. This doesn’t distract me too much as I can easily follow what’s happening on screen, but if it might be confusing to you, please be aware.
Tom Merrick
Known as the “Bodyweight Warrior” to his million subscribers, Tom Merrick is often mentioned on stretching and fitness forums as someone who knows his stuff and creates quality YouTube videos. His routines vary in length and difficulty, so whether you’re a beginner looking for a 12-minute stretch or an advanced person looking for longer routines, there’s something here for you.
He speaks clearly, demonstrates the movements, and reminds you from time to time not to overdo it, offering options for adaptation and adjustments so that you can do exactly what is comfortable and effective for you.
Maddie Lymburner
Maddie Limburner, aka @MadFit, offers a variety of video formats on her channel, where she has nearly 11 million subscribers, but for our purposes, you’ll want to head over to the stretching playlist . There, you’ll find a variety of very specific stretches, each with a different length, focus, and purpose. For example, above is a 12-minute stretch you can do right at your desk.
While there’s no text or anything special on screen, you do get straightforward, clear instructions and well-shot clips, so you can easily follow along.
