How to Make Spotify Louder

If you’re new to Spotify, you may have noticed something odd: your music may sound a little quieter than it should. Maybe it’s an occasional issue, or maybe it’s a problem with most songs. Either way, it’s annoying. Spotify should be loud enough, especially when you crank up the volume.
As with many tech issues, there are a few problems. While all streaming services have their pros and cons , Spotify isn’t always what you’d call “quiet.” If you’re having trouble with Spotify playback volume, try one of the following.
These steps are based on some assumptions, namely that the volume issue is specific to Spotify. If all the audio on your device is too quiet, there may be a different issue, such as debris in the audio source, a faulty speaker, or a general Bluetooth issue.
Volume Normalization
Volume normalization, sometimes called “ audio normalization ,” is a Spotify setting designed to make playlists with songs at different volumes easier to listen to. In theory, if you have one quiet song and then another loud song, this setting will balance the volume of both songs so that the overall volume level is roughly the same.
In practice, however, this can result in songs that would normally be one volume lower than they should be. If you notice that some, but not all, songs are lower than they should be, this could be the cause. In fact, I’d be willing to bet that this setting is the cause of most audio playback issues for Spotify users.
To see, you can turn this setting off by clicking on your profile picture, then going to Settings & Privacy > Playback > Turn on Audio Normalization . You can turn this setting off entirely, but if you leave it on, there are three settings that can affect playback:
-
Loud: This setting is designed for using Spotify in noisy rooms or places. So you may not notice a significant reduction in sound, but it’s worth trying to increase the volume of quiet tracks.
-
Normal: The default option. It probably reduces the volume significantly.
-
Quiet: This setting is intended for quiet rooms and areas. It probably has the biggest impact on volume levels.
Set up Headphone Accommodations (Apple only)
If you’re having trouble using Spotify on Apple devices like your Mac or iPhone, especially with headphones, the “Headphone Accommodations” setting may be the culprit. This setting lets you adjust the sound quality for both Apple and Beats headphones, but if the settings aren’t quite right, your music volume may be limited.
To check, go to Settings > Accessibility > Audio & Video > Headphone Accommodations (iOS) or System Preferences > Accessibility > Audio > Headphone Accommodations (macOS). If this setting is enabled, try disabling it and see if that helps increase the volume. You can also use the slider to boost quiet sounds to Moderate or Strong.
Check the sound level
This may seem obvious, but if the volume level isn’t high enough, your music will be quieter than you’d like.
If you’re using the Spotify mobile app, this may not be a concern, but if you’re using Spotify on your computer, it’s definitely something to consider. After all, you’re not only dealing with the sound levels on your computer, you’re also dealing with the sound levels in the app.
Check the volume bar in the lower right corner of the app: if the volume seems too low, make sure it is set to 100%. If you are using connected speakers with independent volume controls, be sure to increase them as well.
