Google’s August 2025 Update Will Fix These Problems With Your Pixel

Google’s August 2025 update is now available for all compatible Pixel devices. If your Pixel is experiencing erratic performance, especially if it’s one of those experiencing the Back button bug , this update might be just what you need.
Before you get too excited: This isn’t a feature update. If you’re expecting the update to add new features or change the look of your Pixel, temper your excitement. However, the update is important because it includes a number of bug fixes and security patches that will make your Pixel more stable and safe to use.
Bug Fixes in the August Update
This update includes a total of three bug fixes: one system update and two UI bug fixes. (It’s important to note that the bug fixes only apply to the Pixel 7 and newer models, so Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and Pixel 6a devices are not included.)
According to Google, the system update includes general stability and performance improvements “under certain conditions,” though the company doesn’t specify which ones. Still, if you’ve been having general issues with your Pixel, hopefully the update will make it run a little more reliably.
However, the UI bugs are clearly stated . The first update fixes a bug where dark mode sometimes didn’t work. If your Pixel isn’t switching to dark mode in certain situations, this update may fix the issue.
The second bug was particularly widespread: Since June, some Pixel users have encountered issues with both three-button navigation and gesture navigation, with gestures either lagging significantly or not responding at all. Fortunately, these bugs appear to have been fixed in this update. (If you’re still having issues on your Pixel after installing the update, let me know in the comments.)
Security fixes in the August update
There appear to be seven fixes included in this latest update. Google identifies three security fixes in the 2025-08-01 update, three fixes in the 2025-08-05 update, and one Pixel-specific fix in the Pixel update .
The patches are as follows:
-
Two Framework vulnerabilities, identified as CVE-2025-22441 and CVE-2025-48533, are identified. Google says the most severe of these could lead to local privilege escalation. These vulnerabilities require victim intervention to be exploited. Google rates the vulnerability as high.
-
One system vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2025-48530, Google says could lead to remote code execution when combined with other bugs. No user action is required to exploit this vulnerability, making it particularly dangerous. Google rates its severity as critical.
-
One Arm vulnerability, labeled CVE-2025-0932. Google says it affects Arm components and asks Arm to provide more details. Google rates the security level as high.
-
One Qualcomm vulnerability, identified as CVE-2025-27038. Google says it affects Qualcomm components and asks Qualcomm to provide more details. Google rates the severity level as high.
-
One vulnerability in closed-source Qualcomm components, identified as CVE-2025-21479. Google says it affects closed-source Qualcomm components and asks Qualcomm to provide more details. Google rates the severity level as critical.
-
A One Pixel vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2025-26784. Google says this vulnerability could lead to remote code execution targeting the modem. Google rates it as high severity.
