Little-Known Strength Training Device Peloton Is Outdated

Make a cup of tea for a friend who left too soon: Peloton has stopped selling its Guide device. You may not have heard of the piece of equipment — a webcam-like device designed to help with strength training — because it never had the same cachet as the brand’s famous home bikes , treadmills, and rowers. Still, it had a small but loyal following of dedicated users. If you were one of them, don’t worry, you can still use yours.
The guidebook has disappeared
The Peloton website no longer publishes the guide. Try clicking this link where it used to be, but it just takes you to the homepage. This AI-powered tool used to cost $145. It connected to your TV via HDMI and basically watched you as you worked out, tracking your reps and checking your form. It was a pretty cool idea that could have been really helpful for beginner lifters, but it doesn’t matter anymore! It’s gone!
Well, sort of. A company representative told me this: “The manual is no longer for sale, but it will still be usable by those who already have it, and it will still be compatible with the hardware. We’re just stopping sales of new devices.”
So, if you have Guide, you can still use it. There’s nothing new coming to it, but it will still work. There’s no news of a replacement either.
What if you suddenly need a Guide?
Peloton’s own resale platform, Repowered , doesn’t sell Guides either. That doesn’t mean you can’t find a used one somewhere if for some reason you want to buy discontinued equipment that’s never getting an update. Buying used Peloton equipment is pretty common.
eBay is full of listings ranging from $10 to $60. Also check Facebook Marketplace. But be wary of prices that may be inflated after cancellation; try to use platforms where you can negotiate and communicate with sellers. And, as always, beware of scams that can be found on any online resale marketplace.
Ask for the serial number and photos of the ports and various surfaces. The device is useless if it can’t connect to your TV, so the ports are critical. Ideally, ask for a video of the device running to make sure the camera and motion tracking features are still working. Finally, double-check that the device is unlinked from previous Peloton accounts, as you won’t be able to activate it otherwise.
