If you want to get more out of your video-enabled Alexa device, you can get an open-box Amazon Echo Show 8 for $110 on Woot right now! That’s $40 cheaper than the new version on Amazon.
This is a “new, opened package” item, meaning the package was opened for reasons other than consumer use (such as inspection or adding documentation), but the unit has not been used, unlike items simply labeled “opened package” which may have been returned and may show signs of wear. Despite the “open package” status, it is still covered by Amazon’s 1-year limited warranty .
The third-generation Echo Show 8, a step up from the Echo Show 5, earned an “Outstanding” rating from PCMag for its larger screen, higher resolution, improved audio, and updated video calling features. It has a faster AZ2 octa-core processor, which enables faster Alexa response times and improved touch controls. For video calling, there’s a 13-megapixel camera with automatic framing and noise reduction.
When you listen to music, spatial audio analyzes the acoustics of your room and fine-tunes playback for a richer sound. The Top Connections widget lets you make calls with a tap or use voice commands to go hands-free while cooking or multitasking. However, some users report that the device doesn’t recognize your voice unless you’re close to the device. When not in use, the home screen can be used as a digital frame for viewing photos.
If you have a lot of Alexa-enabled devices, the Echo Show 8 will let you control your video doorbell and control your thermostat, lights, and fans. However, if you don’t already use Alexa, you won’t be able to take advantage of all of its features. While some Amazon reviewers were hesitant about the price, the $40 discount on this open-back model makes it only $20 more expensive than the Echo Show 5, offering great value for a more immersive and improved experience.
