Sign up for Nintendo’s Secret Online Test Before It’s Too Late

Nintendo is resuming testing for a game that’s likely to be similar to Minecraft , and you’ll need to hurry to get a chance to try it out. The company is accepting a total of 40,000 applications this time around, up from 10,000 last time. But judging by how quickly spots filled up last time , I still wouldn’t expect them to last more than a few seconds.

The playtest will begin on July 28 and run until August 10, and will run on both the original Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2. While Nintendo is keeping details of the playtest under wraps and asking players to do the same, the company has said that it will be testing the same software “that we tested in October 2024.” Players were technically required to keep the game under wraps during that testing, too, but that hasn’t stopped leaks from making their way online. Nintendo has used copyright enforcement to try to put the genie back in the bottle, but a search on Reddit still shows footage of the software in question. While it seems pretty basic at this point, it appears to be an MMO in the vein of Minecraft , where multiple players can team up to move blocks around a digital world.

According to data collected by Bluesky user Sky , the game is allegedly being developed by the same team that created Nintendo Labo, and the final version will include minigames, mechs, a character editor, and PvP.

If this sounds interesting to you, you might want to reschedule your schedule for tonight. Testing applications open today, July 18, at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. Technically, you have until 7:59 a.m. PT Monday to apply, but since Nintendo says “applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis,” don’t expect to find a spot if you wait.

What do you think at the moment?

To apply , go to the Nintendo form and click the “Proceed to Application” button at the bottom of the screen once applications open. You must have a valid Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership as of yesterday, July 17, and be 18 years of age or older by that date. Your account must also be registered in one of the following countries:

  • Japan

  • United

  • United Kingdom

  • France

  • Germany

  • Italy

  • Spain

  • Canada

  • Brazil

  • Mexico

It’s a pretty strict rule, but if you’re planning on playing with friends, Nintendo offers at least one concession: Instead of applying individually, you can apply as a group. You’ll need to choose a representative, who will then create the application and send everyone in the group an invitation URL where they can log in to complete the process. Everyone in the group must be in the same region, but it’s one possible way to get around a site that’s sure to be busy by the end of the day.
