Google’s New TV 4K Streaming Player Now Costs $84

If you’ve ever had to delete apps from your streaming device to make room for another platform, the new Google TV 4K streaming player may solve that problem. It’s currently on sale on Amazon for $84, down from its usual $99.99. The price drop isn’t huge, but given the benefits, it’s worth taking a closer look, especially if your old Chromecast is starting to run slow or take up little space, Lifehacker notes in its review .
The biggest upgrade is the internal storage. The new model offers four times more storage than the previous generation, allowing you to install all your apps — Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and more — without constantly worrying about running out of space. It also runs smoother. Navigating the Google TV interface is reportedly faster, with no noticeable lag, even when switching between apps or launching one. The remote has also been improved: If it gets stuck between the couch cushions, you can now call it via the Google Home app. It’s a small but really useful addition.
It’s not a perfect upgrade, though. It still supports Wi-Fi 5, so if you were hoping for Wi-Fi 6 or 6E speeds, you’ll need to look elsewhere. It does have an Ethernet port, though, which is handy for a more stable wired connection — something older Chromecast users will appreciate. Google Home integration is there, but it’s still limited compared to other ecosystems. At twice the price of its predecessor, it’s not a cheap buy. But if storage or sluggishness have been an issue with your setup, this version addresses both in a way that feels long overdue.
