Now You Can Share Class Recommendations Directly With Your Peloton Team

With a new update to the Peloton app, you can now more easily engage with the teams you’re in by sending class suggestions directly to your team’s feed. It’s an easy way to motivate people to work toward shared goals, and it gives the entire “team” feature a stronger sense of community.

First, what are teams?

If you’re a Peloton user but don’t know about Teams, I’m going to introduce you to one of the app’s most useful features — assuming you’re the type who craves some kind of shared workout experience even when you’re working out hard in the privacy of your own home. I’ve covered the Teams feature in detail before , but in short: it’s a way to team up with other like-minded individuals and work together toward a goal. You can create a Team with your friends, or join a public Team based on interests, location, or other identifiers. Teams participate in Challenges, which are either competitive or collaborative. In a competitive Challenge, the people on your Team might have a goal, say, to be the one to complete the most bike workouts in a single week. In a collaborative Challenge, your Team’s goal might be something like completing 25 stretching workouts together in five days. These goals are set by the Team Owner. You can track your Teammates’ progress in the Feed tab once you open your Team Overview by tapping the button at the bottom of the home screen. It looks like silhouettes of two people.

What is the new command function?

The new feature is small, but I think it’s pretty cool: You can share links to classes right in your team’s feed, giving your teammates suggestions for the day. The easiest way to do this is in the handy Peloton mobile app . First, find a class you like, tap it to open its details, and look for the Share button. It’s the button in the upper-right corner of the screen with a rectangle and an arrow pointing up. This is what you’d typically tap to share a link via text message or email.

You’ll see the usual option to copy the link, but you’ll also see your teams and the option to share the link directly with one of them. Select the team you want to share the link with and click Continue . You’ll then be able to add a message to the link so it shows up in your team’s feed and adds a personal touch.

Why is this feature good?

The Teams feature is a solid motivator if you enjoy working with or against someone else to achieve a goal, but it’s a bit impersonal. You can see your teammates’ progress in your feed, but you can’t post there; all you can do is high-five or leave a comment after someone completes a workout. With the addition of the ability to recommend an activity and add a message, Teams has become even more social.

What do you think at the moment?

Sharing classes that you think your teammates might enjoy can obviously encourage them to get on a bike or treadmill, take a walk , or otherwise use the app and get a workout in. But it can also foster a sense of camaraderie that’s sorely lacking when you’re working out on your own , even with Peloton’s famous virtual classes.

This is especially helpful if you’re on a team working towards common goals, such as completing a certain number of bike workouts per week, as it’s in your best interest to rally the team around the goal, and giving everyone a class suggestion may be the push they need to get on the bike.
