New to Prime Day? We’ve got everything you need to get started . Sales information is accurate at time of publication, but prices and stock levels are subject to change.
How much are you willing to pay for the perfect toast? If you’re like me, your toaster probably costs $20-$30. How expensive can heating coils be? Oh, you people with limited imaginations. If you’ve been watching cooking videos on YouTube like me lately, you know how high the price ceiling can be on toasters. Meet the Balmuda Toaster. Without a discount, this thing costs over $300. On Prime Day , it’s $247 .
Remember, it’s still a toaster.
It’s not even a combination air fryer or anything, it just toasts (it can be used as a toaster, for example, for cookies, but the capacity is pretty small). But according to my colleague Sam Stone at Mashable , it’s worth it. According to Stone’s review, the Balmuda “may actually be the best performer on the market.”
The trick is that instead of using just heating elements, it adds steam and second-by-second temperature adjustments to ensure heat penetrates the bread, ensuring even toasting—fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. In addition to standard temperature settings, it also has a number of programmable presets, making it easy to reheat sandwich bread, artisan bread, pizza, and pastries.
I haven’t tried it myself, but as someone who has definitely snacked on regular toast, I’m tempted. Everyone I’ve seen on YouTube says it’s not just hype. Maybe it’s time for me to move beyond the cheapest toaster I can get? Maybe I don’t know what I’m missing. The catch is that using this toaster instead of a regular one requires a few extra steps. You have to add the right amount of water each time, and the toasting time is a few minutes longer than you’d like. But if you’re already willing to spend hundreds of dollars on a toaster, I doubt a few extra minutes will dissuade you.
