For someone who can get as much pleasure from a bowl of instant noodles as he can from a fine dining steakhouse, you’d think I wouldn’t mind a cup of coffee from a liquor store or Maxwell House. It turns out I’m quite picky about my coffee and would rather be tired than have a bad cup of coffee. One of my favorite at-home coffee gadgets that makes my mornings even more luxurious is the Dreo All-in-1 BaristaMaker Milk Frother .

I spent months testing it meticulously in my kitchen and judging it from a coffee snob’s perspective. The verdict: It makes microfoam or frothed milk at home like never before. It’s currently on sale for Prime Day on Amazon.

I’ve tried a lot of home espresso machines. They’ve all been the type that first makes the espresso and then steams the milk using a steam wand on the side. It takes some practice, but for the most part, the steam wand is good enough—until you try plant-based milk. Unfortunately, these machines only produce intense steam at one temperature—which might be fine for cow’s milk, but almond, soy, or coconut milk can separate (or denature) under the same conditions. The result is a grainy milk that doesn’t meet my basic coffee quality standards.

What do you think at the moment?

It’s understandable why I was wary when I first tried the Dreo. For starters, it specializes in the milk component of lattes, cappuccinos, flat whites, and more. It uses a small fan or spring-loaded spinner to create foam, and most importantly, it has a control panel where you can select the type of milk. The BaristaMaker takes care of the rest, heating the milk to the perfect temperature for the time you set. Read my full review for more details.

The BaristaMaker really does froth milk like a pro and even makes cold foam for iced lattes. My partner and I are crazy about ours and have been using it for over a year now. Dreo has another version that recently came out and is also on sale. I haven’t tried the new version, but it’s cheaper. To complete your gourmet coffee experience, try a bag of single-origin beans from my favorite coffee shop, Café Grumpy. They don’t have the discount, but I can tell you, the roasters there really know their stuff.
