Friends, grind your coffee fresh. You’ve probably heard this a million times, and if you’re anything like me, you chalked it up to snobbery. But since I started doing it, I’ve instantly been a lot happier brewing coffee in the morning. And thanks to this Prime Day deal on the OXO Brew Conical Burr , the beginner-friendly grinder I use at home, you can now grind fresh for just $70.
I didn’t decide to grind my coffee all at once. I first tried a blade grinder , which you can buy for about $20. But now that I’ve switched to a burr grinder, I won’t regret it.
There are a few reasons. First, a burr grinder provides much more consistent quality. While it’s theoretically possible for a blade grinder to be as good as a burr grinder, a burr grinder can be set to a consistent grind, whereas with a blade grinder you have to manually feel each grind. This increases the chance of error and is much more of a hassle. I like the one-button operation on my burr grinder better than the constant grind, shake, grind, check, shake routine I had with my blade grinder. But perhaps the real reason for upgrading is that a burr grinder is much more convenient. In my experience, the hopper of this grinder is large enough to hold an entire bag of beans, so you just have to load it, select the settings you want, and press a button when you want freshly ground coffee. Snobs will probably chide me for not storing my coffee in a perfectly light- and oxygen-free environment, but it’s really nice to use as is, and it still makes a noticeable difference in flavor. Before this device, I had to measure out the exact amount of beans I wanted to put into my blade grinder every time. Now, I don’t even have to fiddle with a coffee spoon — my grinder is set to grind exactly the amount I need, every time I turn it on. And trust me, having freshly ground coffee so convenient that you actually fiddle with it for your daily cuppa will make your mornings that much better. I immediately noticed far less bitterness and a much greater depth of flavor when I started using the OXO Brew, and even my coffee-hater husband was impressed. If you think you can’t brew a good cup of coffee, try grinding fresh. Chances are, you’ve been brewing with the limiters on this whole time.
