Before getting smart cameras or other smart tech, most people start with a smart doorbell. These have gotten even better, offering exceptional coverage in front of your door, night vision, high-quality video, and AI features. You can see who’s at your door (and decide whether to open it at all), check for package deliveries, and communicate with those at the door when you’re not home via two-way video.
Everyone knows the Ring brand, and for good reason. They make the best doorbells, and I can say that after testing 15-20 of them. Ring has built an entire ecosystem around its doorbells. Once you subscribe (it’s optional, but without it, the doorbell loses almost all functionality except live viewing), you get access to the Ring network. It’s like NextDoor, just for Ring users, and it’s proven to be effective at finding lost dogs and alerting you to power outages. And right now, the Ring doorbell is $49.99 (50% off) as part of Prime Day.
The subscription will cost you $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year and will give you access to 180 days of video recording of your doorbell. You will receive customizable alerts and notifications, as well as video preview alerts that you can click to view the entire video.
Obviously, video quality is important, and this model supports 1440 x 1440 resolution. You’ll hear everything that’s going on at your front door, and you can also use the doorbell as a two-way speaker, allowing you to have full conversations without any lag. Ring is compatible with all smart home systems, including Google and Alexa.
This is a rechargeable Ring model, and I recommend purchasing a second battery so you can swap them out. Even charging is easy: remove the silver plate, take out the battery, and charge it with the included micro-USB cable. If you have a spare battery, you won’t have to waste time charging your doorbell.
