This Clever Brisk It Smoker Has Changed the Way I Cook, and It’s Under $300 on Prime Day.

Prime Day 2025 runs from Tuesday, July 8 through Friday, July 11, and Lifehacker is sharing the best sales based on product reviews, comparisons, and price tracking tools.

I’ve never been intimidated by most things in the kitchen, but smoking seemed like a tedious task. Friends who smoke meats endlessly complain about the sleepless nights spent processing meat with special packaging methods and expensive equipment. No thanks. But I tested five smart grills last year, and while some were good, it wasn’t hard to tell that the Brisk It was truly a genius invention, and it’s currently on sale for under $300 on Prime Day.

I’m not a big fan of AI in cooking — the recipes it suggests are often dull and limited. But the Brisk It app is different. You can ask the AI engine in the Brisk It app (called Vera) to cook anything, and it will suggest a few recipes. You can tweak them, which is handy. But most importantly, the AI designs a sophisticated smoking regime for your dish, including a slow ramp-up, intense smoking at intervals, and ways to avoid “stagnation” (a common problem when smoking meat, where the temperature doesn’t rise for a while).

The app tells you what to cook; you simply place your food on the grill when you want it and insert the probe. You turn on the grill by sliding a button in the app, and the grill takes over. The app may ask you to flip something or add something, but the grill takes care of the entire cooking process, and when the food is done, it automatically turns off.

If you prefer to smoke your own, you can. You don’t need any artificial intelligence. Just turn on the grill and set the temperature, add powerful smoke if desired. Control the process manually from the grill or via the app. The grill runs on standard pellets that you can buy at the store, so there are no proprietary parts. Use any wood.

What do you think at the moment?

I wish I could explain how much the Brisk It has changed the way I cook from spring to fall. Lighting the grill is now as easy as swiping my phone. Barbecues don’t have to be planned in advance – I can cook on the go. And so far, I’ve smoked everything from the obvious (meat) to cheese, vegetables, and even salt.

This model, the Zelos, is the smallest of all the grills, so if you need more cooking space, consider the Origin-580 or 940. I’ve tested them too, and they’re all great.
