My Favorite Dash Cam Is $110 Off on Prime Day

Prime Day 2025 runs from Tuesday, July 8 through Friday, July 11, and Lifehacker is sharing the best sales based on product reviews, comparisons, and price tracking tools.

I am a firm believer that every car owner should get a dash cam. Since I got a dash cam, I feel much more at ease behind the wheel, knowing that someone else’s careless driving will not lead to negative consequences for me. In the event of an accident, you can always share the recording from the dash cam as evidence, which will help prevent further consequences. When I was looking for good dash cams, I read rave reviews about Viofo products, and the A229 Pro is exactly the dash cam I wanted to buy. In the end, I bought a single-channel version of this dash cam, that is, with one camera aimed at the road in front of you.

The Viofo A229 Pro has two cameras (front and rear), allowing you to monitor both sides of the car, and the video quality remains excellent even at night. The dash cam reads license plates perfectly at night and has a mode that allows you to monitor the car even when it is parked. As part of the Prime Day 2025 promotion, the price of the Viofo A229 Pro is a record low – $ 239, which is 30% less than the original price of $ 349.

My experience with the Viofo has been pretty good, but I have to warn you that you will need to buy a few accessories to use this product. This applies to almost every dash cam you buy, but it still needs to be mentioned. The dash cam does not come with a microSD card, so you will have to get yourself one that is equipped to record 24×7. The microSD cards that work fine on your Nintendo Switch will quickly die if you use them with the dash cam, simply because they are not designed to read and write continuously. If you want this dash cam to be active when the car is parked, you will need to buy a hardwire kit separately. I also highly recommend a CPL (circular polarizing lens) filter to reduce glare and for clearer footage. The front camera has a built-in filter, but you will need to buy one for the rear camera. You can find all of these accessories on the official Viofo website , but the products are also available on Amazon.

What do you think at the moment?

The Viofo A229 Pro supports up to 4K@30fps video recording on the front camera and 2K@30fps on the rear camera. It has an app for wirelessly downloading videos from the dash cam, but to be honest, it’s quite slow and not very user-friendly. It’s better to remove the microSD card when you need the footage and manually copy it to your laptop or phone.
