New to Prime Day? We’ve got the lowdown on everything you need to know . Sales are accurate at the time of publication, but prices and inventory are always subject to change.
I’ve been looking for a small portable dishwasher for a while now, and this week I might finally pull the trigger. You see, I’m very lucky and live alone in Manhattan, but my blessings come with significant compromises. Namely, my apartment is small. I don’t have room for many appliances, so I head to the laundromat, borrow all the power tools I need from willing strangers on Nextdoor, and, worst of all, wash all my dishes by hand. A small dishwasher that could fit on a shelf would be perfect for me, but they’re pretty expensive. (I already pay so much in rent!) It seemed like a distant dream… until now.
COMFEE dishwasher purchase deal
When it comes to buying things for my home, I have two rules (though the first usually supersedes the second): Ideally, the item should be light pink to match my decor. If there are no or too many pink options, it should be highly recommended so I don’t waste my money. There are no pink options during Amazon Prime Day (sadly), but there is one that has a good rating:
I had never heard of the COMFEE brand, so I spent some time comparing this one (which is currently only $219) to its competitor Farberware ($246). I had heard of Farberware, which gave me some confidence, but its ratings just aren’t as good.
Here’s a quick rundown of what the COMFEE dishwasher gives you:
-
Compact dimensions: 17.3 x 16.53 x 17.24 inches.
-
Large capacity: can wash up to 30 small items.
-
Easy to use: You can manually fill the built-in reservoir with water or connect it directly to the tap with the included hose.
-
Portability: It can be used in small apartments or on the road, such as in a camper van, as it does not require a sink connection to operate.
-
Six programs to choose from: you can wash dishes in normal mode, quick mode, with steam, fruit wash, glass wash or air freshening.
-
High Temperatures: There is also a hygiene mode that increases the temperature to 192 degrees for maximum disinfection.
-
Useful features: The shelves inside are adjustable and slide out on sliding rollers, and there are teeth inside that can be folded in to hold things like plates in place.
What reviewers say
You and I are in the same boat now, since we are thinking about buying this thing. Come with me.
Reviewers say it’s small, the hose attachment is extremely useful, and its two rotating water arms really do get food and grime off your plates and other small items. However, like many dishwashers, it won’t clean tough baked-on food; you’ll probably still need to pre-soak. It’s also plastic inside, so it will require a more thorough cleaning than a traditional metal dishwasher. Finally, cycles take a bit of time — like up to two hours — which is to be expected. It just doesn’t have the power of a built-in real dishwasher. It has to last. That’s fine with me. I’d rather outsource my dishes to a machine that takes two hours to clean than spend 15 minutes doing it myself.
Many reviewers note that it also lasts a long time. Even at the reduced price, I don’t want to buy something over and over again. Four years seems about as long as you can expect, on average, and longer if you use it irregularly, like when you go camping. I like to imagine that in four years I’ll be living in a bigger house. Maybe that’ll motivate me. I think I’ll hit the “buy now” button.
