What if you could eat inexpensive ice cream every day without feeling guilty? Let me introduce you to Ninja Creami, my latest culinary obsession.

As any Halo Top fan knows, low-calorie ice creams tend to be pretty expensive, and that often leads to some serious bathroom consequences. Ninja Creami, after an admittedly steep price tag, solves both of those problems.

While home ice cream makers are nothing new, Creami is unique in the way it works. It’s essentially a miniature Pacojet, an $8,000 restaurant machine that uses a special attachment to pulverize pre-frozen ingredients into creams, soups, and sauces. Creami, at 2% the price, does the same thing, but for ice cream and other similar frozen desserts.

The results are magical: Creami lets you do some seriously crazy things. Sure, you can make regular, full-fat ice cream. Just freeze the ingredients for 24 hours before you mash them using one of the machine’s preset programs. But the magic of Creami is that because it doesn’t churn for hours, but churns for minutes, you can get more creative with your ingredients.

That’s what’s made this gadget go viral on platforms like TikTok over the past few years. With just a few ingredients, like milk and flavored protein powder, you can make a pretty convincing imitation of, say, regular store-bought ice cream, but for a lot less money and with fewer calories. Throw in a few packets of sugar-free gelatin and maybe some extracts or additives, and baby, you’ve got yourself a Ben & Jerry’s-level stew.

It’s completely changed the way I approach desserts and even dinners. Now I don’t have to feel guilty when my sweet tooth kicks in — a pint of Ninja Creami is basically just a glass of milk, and it’s much more enjoyable to drink than a quick cake or cookies from DoorDash. And I can even plan ahead — I’ll scale down my dinner portions and pair it with ice cream to make it more balanced.

Plus, it’s just fun to watch the process: I have recipes on my phone for chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, cookies ‘n’ cream ice cream, dulce de leche ice cream – I’ve found so many cool things to do with it that I actually prefer the low-cal ice cream I make with it to the ones I buy at restaurants.

This is the most expensive product I would recommend for any home kitchen, and I haven’t even tried making other desserts with it, like boozy milkshakes or sorbet (which you can make by simply dumping certain fruits from a jar directly into a pint of Creami). The only real downside is that you have to freeze the pint of Creami first, but if you always have a few flavors in the freezer, that’s not a big deal.

Right now, you can get a Ninja Creami and two pints (yes, it requires special containers) for $169 at Walmart, which is a bit cheaper than the regular price of $199. It may not be the biggest savings, but if you have a sweet tooth like me, it’ll still add up quickly.
