There are “deals” on countless items, but unless you do a ton of research, it’s hard to know if the sale price is a good deal. Lifehacker tech editor Jake Peterson loves his Apple AirPods Max earbuds, but he’s the first to admit that the $550 retail price is steep when comparable earbuds — albeit less stylish and Apple-compatible — can be had for much less.
