The Outdoor 4 is completely wireless, weather-resistant ( IP65 rating ), and runs on included AA batteries that can last up to two years depending on usage. And with 1080p video and a 143-degree field of view, it’s designed to keep an eye on your porch, driveway, or backyard without much fuss (though you should temper your expectations for low-light image quality).

This version comes with a new Sync Module Core , which is a small hub that keeps things connected and humming. It plugs into a wall outlet inside your home and links your camera to Wi-Fi, helping to extend battery life and allowing you to control settings or view footage in real time via the Blink app.

Unlike older modules, the Core doesn’t have a USB port for local video storage, so if you want to save clips, you’ll need to sign up for Blink’s cloud plan . A 30-day trial is included; after that, plans start at $3/month for one device or $10/month for unlimited devices per account. If you’d rather skip the cloud, you can upgrade to a separate Sync Module XR or Sync Module 2 and a MicroSD card (up to 256GB) for local backup, all sold separately.

What do you think at the moment?

In terms of performance, the Outdoor 4 gets solid marks for its price. PCMag’s “Excellent” review noted the improved motion detection over previous models, thanks to the addition of person detection (though that’s also locked by subscription ). Two-way audio is built in, and you can connect it to Alexa to view your feed, arm or disarm your security, or control other settings with your voice. Just know that it doesn’t work with Google Assistant or HomeKit. Overall, it’s not a full-fledged outdoor home security system, but if you’re looking for a low-commitment way to monitor part of your home, it’s a hard-to-ignore offering.
