Samsung’s Next Galaxy Unpacked Model Will Show Off Its ‘Ultra’ Foldable Smartphone

After Google I/O and WWDC, the next big tech event of the year is Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Unpacked conference , which the company has already confirmed for July 9. (Doesn’t Samsung know everyone will be busy with Prime Day?) Following the previous Unpacked event that focused on the Galaxy S25 series, the upcoming announcement will focus on the company’s latest foldable phones, likely including a look at the long-rumored Ultra model.
This follows precedent — Samsung typically announces its foldable phones sometime mid-year. While Samsung doesn’t confirm details until the day, the headline of the announcement reads, “Galaxy Unpacked July 2025: The Ultra Experience is ready to unfold.” Plus, the teaser posted on Samsung’s YouTube ends with the line “Ultra Unfolds.” So I think it’s pretty clear what to expect.
But even if the company has essentially let the biggest cat out of the bag, that doesn’t mean there won’t be more surprises. Here’s how to watch the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked, and what announcements to expect.
How to Watch the Next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked
Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event will take place on July 9 at 10 a.m. ET. As with past Samsung announcements, you’ll be able to catch the news live on Samsung.com or on Samsung’s own YouTube channel . The in-person event will be held in Brooklyn, New York, though it won’t be open to the public. (Lifehacker will be posting the latest Galaxy Unpacked news as it becomes available.)
What to Expect from the Next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked
As Samsung has all but confirmed, this summer event will definitely be all about foldables. That means we’ll likely see the seventh Galaxy Z Fold and Flip devices for the first time, though it’s unclear what form they’ll take.
“Ultra” folding?
Samsung’s invitation, as well as a now-deleted post from earlier this month , indicate that a foldable smartphone under the Ultra brand will be coming at some point, but we don’t know if it will be released in addition to the current Z Fold and Flip lines or replace one or both models entirely.
Personally, I’m leaning toward the Ultra being a new option in addition to the base Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 models, but other Android foldables have gone the latter route, most notably the Pixel 9 Pro Fold .
What Leaks and Rumors Tell Us About Samsung’s New Foldable Smartphones
Regardless of what Samsung’s new devices are called, here’s what we already know: In February , Android Headlines collaborated with leaker OnLeaks to publish CAD renders of what it suspected was the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and late last week, the site also published what it says are official renders. It’s still calling the phone the Fold 7, so it’s possible the Ultra will be something else entirely, though that suggests that if it is, nothing about it has leaked. Perhaps Samsung is simply renaming the Fold 7 to include “Ultra” in the name?
Thinner folding
As for the renders, the main takeaway is that this phone will likely be thinner than the Z Fold 6, “somewhere between 3.9mm and 4.5mm when unfolded.” For comparison, the current model is 5.6mm thick when unfolded, while the recent rival foldable, the Oppo Find N5, is 4.2mm thick when unfolded.
The Return of the Camera Obscura
Also notable is that the under-display pinhole camera on the inner display appears to have been replaced with a punch-hole camera, likely to improve quality. This will mean a slight interruption to your screen real estate, though it still takes up less space than the iPhone’s Dynamic Island.
New screen shape
The outer display also looks a little wider, with an aspect ratio more similar to the main display on a non-foldable phone. If the leaks come true, expect it to be 6.5 inches overall. And with that wider outer display, it also means a slightly larger, 8.2-inch inner screen, which would be the largest on a foldable phone.
Status Quo Processor
Leaks don’t expect a significant increase in power, expecting the phone to be powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Galaxy chip found in the Galaxy S25 series of phones. Despite the phone being thinner, battery capacity should be in line with previous generations.
Maybe a major camera upgrade?
One of the biggest shots from the leaks concerns the camera, which Android Headlines says will be upgraded to a 200MP main sensor. That’s probably where the Ultra name comes from — the sensor is one of the main differentiators on Samsung’s latest non-foldable Ultra phones. I’m a little skeptical, since foldables typically sacrifice camera quality to achieve their form factor, but if this pans out, it would essentially negate one of the main reasons to stick with a non-foldable phone. There might not even be a base Fold 7 if it has such a good camera.
New Galaxy Z Flip 7
As for what Samsung’s next flip phone will be, the leaked details are a little more sparse. It appears to be on the way, with animated renders from Android Headlines and Onleaks indicating it will have a larger outer display, more like Motorola’s Razr . That means it will extend around the dual camera lenses, for a total of 3.6 inches of screen space overall. The inner display should also grow by an inch, reaching 6.8 inches, though the thickness should remain the same. The phone as a whole could be slightly wider, at 75.2mm, but the other dimensions should be roughly equivalent to the Z Flip 6, as will the camera specs. No processor details are known yet.
How much will the new devices cost?
Pricing is a bit of a contentious issue. While reports from Android Headlines and a statement from insider PandaFlashPro claim that prices will remain the same as previous models, a later leak from NieuweMobiel and shared by SamMobile showed that an Italian retailer announced a price increase of €200 for what it labeled as the Fold 7 and €100 for the Flip 7, which would bring the prices of the new phones to €2,227 and €1,425, respectively. However, it’s entirely possible that this discrepancy could be due to regional differences, an insider or retailer error, or confusion caused by rumors of a new Ultra model.
We’ll have to wait until July 9th for specific details. Stay tuned for updates.
