Your Messages App Will Be Able to Identify Spam Texts in IOS26

While texting is an easy way to communicate with people, one of the downsides is unsolicited or unwanted messages, especially those that try to trick you. But today at WWDC 2025, Apple unveiled a new way to handle messages in the Messages app.

With iOS 26 (Apple’s new software naming scheme), the Messages app will now include on-device spam detection, allowing you to filter spam messages as they arrive. The Messages app will automatically flag text messages from unknown numbers in a separate folder under “Unknown Senders.” From there, you can mark the number as known, get more information, or delete it; messages from these unknown senders will be muted until the user accepts them.

The Messages app will let you easily filter out these spam messages so they don’t show up in your main conversation window, and you can focus on the topics that matter. Apple says the new on-device spam detection feature in the Messages app will launch with iOS 26, which is coming to compatible iPhones later this year.
