Samsung Will Soon Delete Your Inactive Account If You Don’t Sign In

If you’ve been online longer than you’d like to admit, you probably have an account or two that you no longer use. My password manager is full of logins I haven’t accessed in years, and I know I have accounts I’ve never even thought about, let alone logged into, that haven’t even made it into this password manager.

We all like to think that the internet is forever, and that these accounts will always be there waiting for us if we ever want to come back. Unfortunately, the internet doesn’t work that way. These accounts are hosted by companies whose financial and security interests don’t align with keeping inactive accounts forever. Sooner or later, companies start purging their inactive accounts. While active account holders will never notice the difference, you may be upset to find that the account you’ve held for a decade no longer exists.

Samsung to delete inactive accounts from July 31

That’s the case with Samsung and its current crop of inactive accounts. As SamMobile reports , Samsung plans to remove inactive accounts starting July 31. The company is targeting accounts that haven’t been accessed for 24 months, meaning the first round of accounts will be inactive until at least July 31, 2023.

If you’ve only ever had one Samsung account, and that’s the one you currently use on your devices, you have nothing to worry about. But if you’ve had multiple Samsung accounts in the past, or you’ve ditched your Galaxy for a Pixel or iPhone and kept your account, you’ll want to make sure you sign in to it as soon as possible. Otherwise, Samsung will help you get rid of it.

What do you think at the moment?

You don’t have to sign in right now if you’re reading this post as it’s published: Just make sure you’ve signed into any Samsung accounts you haven’t accessed in the two years (or more) before that July 31 deadline. Do that, and you’re set for another 24 months—or until Samsung changes the policy.
