Android Users Will Finally Be Able to Sync Their Garmin Fitness Data

The Health Connect app expands the “data sharing” feature by allowing Android users to sync their health information across multiple apps. The announcement was made during Google’s developer livestream at I/O 2025. Google says Health Connect will support Runna, Mi Fitness, and Garmin starting in June. Here’s what you need to know.

Wait, you couldn’t sync your health data to Garmin before?

Apparently not! My colleague Beth Squareski shared with me this screenshot of the Connected Apps screen in Garmin settings on her iPhone, compared to her husband’s Android. As you can see, Apple Health is connected to Garmin on the iPhone, but Health Connect for Garmin on Android is missing.

Until now, Garmin/Android users have been limited in their ability to consolidate fitness data from multiple services. In other words, this Health Connect update will address long-standing complaints about the ability to sync data.

Plus, Garmin’s integration couldn’t be more timely given the release of the highly anticipated Forerunner 965 and Forerunner 970 watches .

What if I don’t want to sync?

As you can see from the screenshots above, connecting your device’s health app to Garmin is completely optional. The Health Connect platform acts as a secure middleman, storing all data locally on users’ devices rather than in the cloud. Users retain full control over their data sharing preferences, with all integrations turned off by default and requiring explicit approval before any information is synced between apps. You can easily manage permissions if you prefer to keep your data separate.

What do you think at the moment?

Garmin support is expected to arrive later this month.

The June launch of Garmin support, along with Runna and Mi Fitness integration, is long overdue for Android/Garmin users. The company’s historically closed ecosystem has meant that users wanting to share their Garmin-collected data with other health and fitness apps have faced frustrating hurdles or required workarounds. Now, the doors should be open to allow your workouts and other data to flow in and out of your Garmin app much more easily.

Beyond basic fitness metrics, Google emphasized that the integration will allow users to “read and write” more comprehensive health information, including allergies and vaccinations. The integration update is expected to launch sometime in June, though Google hasn’t yet given a specific launch date.
