Nintendo Has Compiled a List of Switch 1 Games That Will Be Ready for Switch 2

The Switch 2 is just around the corner. On June 5, those of us lucky enough to pre-order will start receiving our consoles and be able to play new games like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza .

Of course, Nintendo’s new console isn’t just compatible with Switch 2 games. It will also play your original Switch games. The thing is, it’s not as easy as with other backwards-compatible consoles : The Switch 2 uses emulation to run original Switch games, so it won’t play those games natively. That works in most cases — Nintendo says that virtually all Switch games from the original company can run on the Switch 2 without issue, and the same goes for most “partner” games.

However, some games are facing emulation issues on the Switch 2. Some games have issues launching (like Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus , Rocket League , and FINAL FANTASY ), while others are “playable” but suffer from in-game compatibility issues (like ALIEN: ISOLATION , Fall Guys , and Overcooked! All You Can Eat ). Nintendo is investigating the issue for these games, so hopefully they will all eventually be able to run as well on the Switch 2 as they did on the original Switch.

These Switch Games Will Get Updates for Switch 2

In fact, there’s already a list of games with fixes . Nintendo says 49 games with current issues running on the Switch 2 will receive updates at or shortly after the system’s launch to fix those issues. (The exception is Fortnite , which will apparently get an actual Switch 2 version rather than an update.)

Unfortunately, there’s no firm timeline for when these games will get the patch. Nintendo’s “at or shortly after launch” promise is pretty vague: Will some games get the patch? Most? Which ones? How long after launch is “soon after?”
