How to Improve Quick Settings on Pixel

Until now, the Quick Settings panel on Pixel phones has been lackluster at best. You could only add up to eight toggles, there was no way to make them smaller, and it was really hard to tell when a setting was on or off.

Google has finally decided to fix this issue in the latest beta version of Android, finally bringing the speed of phones running the stock Android OS up to the level of products from manufacturers like Samsung.

How to try out the new quick settings panel

Android 16 is a redesign that introduces a new Material 3 Expressive update , as Google calls it. While this update won’t be finalized until September, with the Pixel Drop, it’s already available in Android 16 QPR Beta 1. If you’re a little impatient, you can head over to the beta channel to test it out. Although you should know that since this is a QPR (Quarterly Platform Releases) developer beta, you’ll be stuck in a beta release cycle until the final stable build of Android 16 arrives in the fall. If you want to go back to the stable channel of Android 15, your only option is a factory reset.

With that in mind, anyone can install the Android beta, no effort required. If you have a compatible Pixel phone (Pixel 6 and up), use this link to sign up for the beta . Once you’ve done that, head to Settings > System > Software Update to get started.

How to Customize the New Quick Settings Panel on Pixel

After updating to Android 16, you’ll see a new coat of paint across the OS, but the quick settings panel will still look largely the same. The first thing you’ll notice is that the enabled toggles are shaped differently. Inactive toggles have rounded corners, while active toggles are almost square.

The real fun begins when you customize the new panel, though. You can shrink each switch down to fit up to 16 in the expanded view and eight in the notification view.

What do you think at the moment?

To do this, expand the quick settings panel and tap the Edit button in the bottom corner. You’ll now see a new customization screen, and you’ll also see that the new toggles are finally organized into categories. Scroll down to see all your options.

To resize a toggle, tap it, grab the edge and shrink it. It’s that simple. To add a toggle to the quick settings panel, just tap it in the expanded list.

Rearranging is as easy as dragging and dropping. Google’s stock has finally caught up with Samsung.
