Google Brings Gemini AI to Smartwatches, Cars and TVs

Google’s Gemini AI is expanding beyond Android phones, the company officially announced today ahead of the Google I/O 2025 conference later this month. Specifically, Google says it will introduce AI assistants into smartwatches, cars, TVs, and even mixed reality headsets. This is a significant step forward for Gemini as it will allow people to use the service on virtually every device in the Google ecosystem.
Gemini on Wear OS devices
The goal of Gemini on your smartwatch is to ensure that your AI assistant is always with you, so you can ask questions while you cook, ride your bike, or do housework while your phone charges. Google says you can use Gemini to set reminders, and it will be able to use contextual information such as your location to give you the right answers. The company adds that you can ask Gemini to remind you of a restaurant reservation mentioned in your inbox or remember which locker you use at the gym, right from your Wear OS smartwatch. Gemini for smartwatches is planned to be released “in the coming months.”
Twins in your car
Google Assistant for Android Auto has been one of the most useful features for drivers who want to remain hands-free, and now the company is updating it to Gemini . This will be available to every car that supports Android Auto or has Google built-in . The company says it will help people by allowing them to use natural language to control their cars, reducing distractions. Google says you won’t have to think about the right voice prompt to get the results you want.
In terms of actual use cases, Google suggests you could ask Gemini to provide a daily news summary, excluding certain topics, or you could ask Gemini to summarize your text messages and then answer them for you – even translating them into another language if you want. In terms of travel assistance, Google suggests asking AI to help you find points of interest along your route, such as a charging station near a park.
The Gemini will be available on Android Auto “in the coming months” and will be available for cars with Google built-in after that. I’m curious how useful this will end up being, because in some use cases Gemini was a little slower for me than non-AI controls.
Gemini on TV and other devices
Gemini will also be coming to Google TV, where the company says it will help you find the type of content you want. For example, you can ask it to search for “age-appropriate action movies” and it will provide you with a list of AI recommendations. Alternatively, the bot could answer questions by sharing a few words and then linking to relevant YouTube videos. Sounds great, unless the AI hallucinates and accidentally sends your child down a rabbit hole of misinformation .
Gemini is also planned to be used on several other devices, including possible Android XR mixed reality headsets . The company said that Samsung will release the first Android XR headset later this year, and that it will come with Gemini. Some Sony and Samsung headphones will also get Gemini support, but the timing of the launch of these devices is unclear.
