It has a 1440p resolution, a 1000R curve that pulls you into the action, a 165Hz refresh rate with FreeSync and G-SYNC support to keep screen tearing to a minimum, and features like Samsung’s Virtual Aim Point and Contrast Enhancer to add a little extra gaming flair without complicating the gaming experience. On paper, this is more than enough for casual and mid-level gamers.

However, this was not without problems. If you’re sensitive to input lag or demanding about image clarity, the G55C may leave you wanting more. Fast-paced games experience noticeable motion blur and motion blur, especially with dark transitions, and input lag at 165Hz and 60Hz can reportedly feel sluggish (oddly, gameplay seems faster at 120Hz). Additionally, the backlight strobing feature, designed to reduce motion blur, causes ghosting and cannot be used when VRR is enabled. HDR is supported, but you’ll want to keep expectations in check: it gets bright enough to combat some glare, but not enough to provide meaningful HDR performance .

What are your thoughts so far?

It works well with consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S , but you’ll have to tweak your settings to avoid compatibility issues with 4K and HDR signals. You also won’t find any USB-C ports or a USB hub here, and there are no built-in speakers. Plus, its narrow viewing angles mean that when you move away or stand up, the image quality degrades, so it’s not ideal for couch gaming or multitasking with someone else. But for single-player gaming on a budget, especially if you play slow-paced or story-driven games, it delivers a large screen with immersive graphics and decent contrast. If you’re considering alternatives, the Dell G2724D gaming monitor is a good example with similar specs, but it retails for a higher price of $314.
