Instacart Launches New Party App for Ordering Alcoholic Drinks and Snacks

Instacart is releasing a new app, but it’s not designed for ordering groceries—at least not the essentials. Instead, Instacart views Fizz as a party delivery app for ordering snacks and alcoholic beverages.
Of course, Fizz isn’t the first to offer alcohol delivery. Instacart itself supports alcohol delivery wherever it’s legal, as does DoorDash. But perhaps the most famous alcohol delivery app was Drizly: the service was a popular option for ordering alcohol, but its reputation suffered after a massive data breach in 2020 . Uber acquired the app the following year and then closed it in 2024 .
But Fizz is not a Drizly clone. Instead, the app is more like Drizly crossed with a party planning app like Partiful or Apple Invites —not only do you order drinks and appetizers, but you also invite others to do so. In fact, Fizz is now built into the Partiful app, so you can use it when planning your party in general.
Instacart says that once you launch a “party cart,” you can share the link with friends to invite them to join. (They don’t need the Fizz app to participate.) Each group member can see what’s already ordered and add whatever they want. Anything you add to your party cart you pay for yourself, which gives me mixed feelings. On one hand, it’s great to let people “bring” what they want to the party without having to hunt people down to pay for their share. But for some parties and gatherings, it makes sense to split everything equally. It would be great if Fizz added at least such an option.
If you want to use Fizz with Partiful, you can enable “Group Order” in the app. After this, every Partiful member will be able to access the Fizz link.
Since the app is designed for ordering alcohol, it is only available to users 21 years of age and older. There is also a flat delivery fee of $5 for all orders, but this does not include tip.
If you live in a state or area where alcohol delivery is illegal, you cannot use Fizz (or any other alcohol delivery service). According to TechCrunch , Fizz is available in Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana (select regions), Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico (select regions), New York, Nevada (select regions), North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming.
