You Can Now Chat With Perplexity AI Directly From WhatsApp

After adding voice assistant functionality to the iPhone app, Perplexity is now available on WhatsApp. Working just like any other chat, you can use the Perplexity chatbot without an account or any settings. Just send it your questions and the Perplexity AI model will answer you. It also has access to the Internet, so it can provide the latest information, create images, and more.

How Perplexity Chat works on WhatsApp

Using Perplexity on WhatsApp does not require a Perplexity account, and as it stands there isn’t even a way to link your Perplexity account to WhatsApp. This is great for easy setup, but your chats won’t sync to your account.

To start chatting with Perplexity, start a new chat with the following number: +1 (833) 436-3285. Click the Plus button to start a new chat, search for that number and click the Chat button next to Confused to start.

Perplexity’s replies on WhatsApp are quite quick, but short and to the point. Don’t expect full functionality here with tools like Deep Research .

How to Chat with Perplexity and Create Images on WhatsApp

Once you’ve started a chat with Perplexity, it’s as simple as entering questions and waiting for a response. Perplexity’s artificial intelligence works quite quickly and provides answers in just a couple of seconds. Plus, it supports voice memos, so you can record a voice note as a question, it will transcribe it, and then quickly respond to you.

You can even ask it to generate images or edit an image. Confusion is actually trying to force this person to “make this person bald.”

This tweet is currently unavailable. It may be downloading or has been deleted.

The nice thing here is that Perplexity includes links and sources in its responses and shares the generated images directly in the chat, making them easy to save and forward (ChatGPT, for some strange reason, shares the image link instead).

What are your thoughts so far?

Perplexity can also take forwarded messages as input, so you can use Perplexity AI to fact-check that weird message from your uncle that you already know is a scam.

How WhatsApp integration in Perplexity differs from ChatGPT

ChatGPT is also available on WhatsApp for free and, like Perplexity, uses the latest models available and is connected to the Internet. However, unlike Perplexity, it has the ability to link your phone number to your account, so all your chats from WhatsApp can also appear in your ChatGPT app (something Perplexity doesn’t offer). In my experience, its answers can also be a bit more detailed than Perplexity’s, including tables and other additional context. However, it’s a shame that you have to click a link to see your images.

Suitable for quick questions

In testing, I found that Perplexity’s WhatsApp bot works best with short queries. At the moment, Perplexity AI’s responses on WhatsApp are limited to just a couple of sentences even if you ask a detailed question, so if you want something deeper, it’s best to switch to the Perplexity app or try sending a text message to ChatGPT instead.

Although this may just be a growing pain for Perplexity, which had to take its WhatApp bot offline for a couple of hours before launch due to unexpected demand .
