Nintendo Just Released Another Switch Update

If you’re a Switch fan, you may know that Nintendo released a pretty significant update this week . Version 20.0.0 introduced a number of new features and changes to Nintendo consoles, including virtual game cards and GameShare, and set the stage for the launch of Switch 2. However, the update brought with it something Nintendo didn’t plan for: instability.
It turns out that after updating to version 20.0.0, some Switch users were experiencing error codes when booting up their consoles, specifically error code: 2206-1015, which was causing some Switches to crash . While this doesn’t seem to affect most Switches, the issue was serious enough that Nintendo acknowledged it on its customer support page for the X. In the post, the company apologizes for the issue and says it is looking into the issue.

It didn’t take them long to find a solution, with Nintendo acknowledging the issue on Thursday, May 1, before releasing a new update on Friday, May 2. According to the release notes , this version 20.0.1 update fixes one issue: an issue with error code: 2206-1015. If you install this update, don’t expect to see anything new from version 20.0.0—except, of course, for any error codes.
How to update your switch if it’s not responding
The problem, however, is that if you have a vulnerable switch, you won’t be able to update it properly. (This is a tricky thing about bugs that crash your system.) Luckily, Nintendo has a solution: update your Switch in maintenance mode .
To do this, follow these steps:
-
Make sure the switch is completely turned off by pressing and holding the power button for 12 seconds.
-
Hold the Volume Up and Down buttons, then press the Power button to turn on the system.
-
Do not release the volume buttons until you see the maintenance mode menu.
-
When you see the Maintenance Mode menu, select Update System , then follow the on-screen instructions to update.
