Nintendo Has Finally Announced a New Pre-Order Date for Switch 2

If you’re looking forward to the new Nintendo Switch 2 , the current pre-order situation should make you a little nervous. Nintendo’s upcoming console is scheduled to launch on June 5, but without pre-ordering it’s impossible to predict how difficult it will be to purchase. Fortunately, the situation is improving. On Friday, Nintendo finally announced a new date for when fans can expect to pre-order the Switch 2, as well as some good and bad news regarding the price increase. Here’s the latest news.

Switch 2 pre-orders open next week

It’s official: If you live in the US or Canada, you can pre-order Nintendo Switch 2 on Thursday, April 24th. The new date replaces the original April 9 pre-order schedule announced by Nintendo earlier this month. The company has delayed pre-orders due to the unpredictable set of tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on countries around the world. With the administration eliminating some tariffs and pausing new ones (at least for now), it appears that Nintendo feels confident enough to commit to US pre-orders.

Part of the reason for the delay (or perhaps the entire reason for the delay) was likely an assessment of whether the company should increase the price of the Switch 2. Luckily, the calculation hasn’t changed in that direction: the Switch successor will cost $449.99, the same price Nintendo announced in early April. Likewise, Mario Kart World will still cost $79.99 and Donkey Kong Bananaza will still cost $69.99. While these games are more expensive than you’d expect from Nintendo games, at least they won’t cost any more.

Toggle 2 price increases

The bad news, however, is that not all previously announced prices will remain the same. Nintendo says Switch 2 accessory prices will skyrocket. These prices are as follows :

What are your thoughts so far?

  • Switch 2 Pro Controller: $84.99 (was $79.99)

  • Left and Right Joy-Con 2: $94.99 (was $89.99)

  • Switch Camera 2: $54.99 (was $49.99).

All three affected devices appear to cost $5 more, which isn’t a huge price increase, but these accessories were already expensive to begin with. (Seeing Joy-Cons for nearly $100 is truly something.) Luckily, the suggested retail price for other Switch 2 accessories has remained unchanged. These include:

  • Joy-Con Charging Handle 2: $34.99.

  • Joy-Con Strap 2: $12.99.

  • Joy-Con Wheel 2 (two sets): $19.99.

  • Switch Dock 2: $109.99.

  • Switch 2 Carrying Case (with screen protector): $34.99.

  • Switch 2 Universal Case: $79.99.

  • Switch AC Adapter 2: $29.99.

Nintendo isn’t the only one raising prices. Earlier this week , Sony announced it was increasing the suggested retail price for the PS5 worldwide. For now, the US has been spared these cost adjustments, but we’ll see if that continues.
