Customize Your Samsung With the Most Popular Good Lock Modules
If you have a Samsung Galaxy phone, you also have access to the Good Lock app from the Galaxy Store or Play Store . This free app provides many additional ways to customize and customize your phone beyond what you get in One UI, and covers everything from 3D wallpapers to advanced camera settings.
There’s a lot to explore in Good Lock, and you can choose from different modules (mini-applications) as needed. Samsung recently shared three modules that have been the most popular among users since Good Lock first launched back in April 2016, and they’re a good starting point for those new to the app or looking to explore it further.
When you open Good Lock on your Galaxy phone, you’ll see all the different plugins listed under the Plugins tab—tap any of the filters at the top of the list to narrow down your search. When you’ve found something you want to use, click the download button (down arrow) next to it on the right.
Sound assistant
Sound Assistant gives you access to many different audio settings on your device. For example, you can change the appearance of the volume slider, change how much the volume increases and decreases each time you press any of the volume buttons, set specific volume levels for certain apps, and set alerts (for notifications and alarms) only through your headphones rather than your phone’s speaker.
To do this, tap the top option in the Adjust Volume panel in Sound Assistant. You can change the layout, lighting effects and colors used on the panel as you wish. If you then return to the previous screen, you can drag the Change Volume Steps slider to set the volume steps from 1 to 10.
The ability to set different volume levels for individual apps means you can, say, keep your white noise app at whisper level while your podcast app is running at full volume. Click Single Application Volumes to get started, then click the + (plus) button to add an application. You then get a slider from 0 to 100 percent for each of the apps you select.
Theme park
The Theme Park module allows you to relax when it comes to customizing your phone’s visual interface. You can edit the colors of the keyboard, quick settings panel and volume panel, as well as change the shape and color of icons and customize the wallpaper gallery. You can switch between different theme options with just one tap.
Select Create New and follow the onscreen instructions to choose an image for your phone wallpaper, which you can crop as needed. You’ll then receive suggestions for color schemes based on the wallpaper you choose, which you can override. To save a new theme, tap the down arrow (top right) and give it a name.
The remaining tabs within the module work in a similar way. It can take a while to figure out everything about the theme park, but much of it works intuitively, and if you put some time and effort into creating your theme, you can create something that looks very different from the default One UI interface.
One-handed operation+
The third module presented by Samsung is One Hand Operation+. As the name suggests, it lets you control more actions on your phone with one thumb, whether you’re right- or left-handed, so you’ll have an easier time navigating One UI and your apps if you only have one hand free.
Once the module is enabled, you will have two “handles” on either side of the screen that you can customize. With these markers you can assign different gestures to different actions. For example, a quick swipe from the right will take you back to the Home screen. You can have just one marker on the left or right, or use both.
You can also change the size and touch sensitivity of the markers to make sure they’re right for you, and there are additional settings to prevent certain apps from using the markers and disable the one-handed interface under certain conditions (like you’re watching a movie in landscape mode).
Other modules
These are three Good Lock modules that have been popular with users over the years, but there are many others worth trying. I especially like LockStar, which gives you more options to customize the look of your lock screen: you can change the lock screen layout, switch between clock styles, and more.
Home Up is also worth a look. It allows you to create a freeform home screen layout with widgets and app icons of your choice, as well as add stickers, customize gesture controls for navigation, and even adjust the speed and smoothness of animations. You also get more control over the sharing panel and recent apps view in One UI.
If you use the Camera app on your Galaxy phone a lot, consider Camera Assistant. Additional options it adds include zoom shortcuts, HDR processing, image softening, switching between different camera lenses, and photo resolution.
