Try These Fixes If YouTube TV Stops Working on Your Roku
The YouTube TV app has disappeared for some Roku users. Luckily, if you are one of those affected, you can try to fix this problem.
Since this week, several users on the Reddit and Roku forums have separately reported problems opening the YouTube TV app or even finding it on their Roku devices. Those who tried to reinstall the YouTube TV app could see an “Open App” button, but clicking on it simply resulted in an error. What’s worse is that the problems seem isolated to Roku, with users of devices like the Google TV Streamer 4K not having the same complaints.
Luckily, this issue seems to only affect people with dedicated Roku devices, not smart TVs with Roku streaming built-in. Here’s how you can try to get YouTube TV back if it’s disappeared from your Roku.
Fix YouTube TV app disappearing on Roku.
Roku acknowledged the problem and offered a temporary solution while it investigated. To start using the YouTube TV app on Roku again, try updating your device manually. Follow these steps:
-
Press the Home button on your remote.
-
Select Settings .
-
Click System .
-
Go to the Software Update section .
-
Click “Check Now” to start the update manually.
Roku says that once the software update is complete, you may be able to see the YouTube TV app on your Roku device again, but it’s not guaranteed. If the problem still occurs, some Reddit users also suggest simply accessing YouTube TV from the stock YouTube app instead, which you can find in the very bottom left corner of the app’s interface.
This small glitch comes at a bad time for both Roku and YouTube. Roku has been in the news recently for experimenting with a new way to force users to watch ads , while YouTube TV prices have also increased slightly. So perhaps the real solution to this problem is to simply stop using YouTube TV. Okay, I’m kidding, but even though the app has been updated , the service may not always offer good value for money if it doesn’t have the content you want .
